Inspired by this thread, and I hope this isn’t duplicative.
I wondered how much TP you have on hand, and how quickly you expect to go through it.
It is just the 2 of us at home. Yesterday I counted the TP in our 3 bathrooms. We had 18 rolls - in addition to the 3 partial rolls that are out. Still the same numbers today, so we go thru well under a roll a day. We’re probably good for a month.
We didn’t intentionally stock up or anything. Fortuitously, my wife just picked up a package on a recent trip to replenish our stock. But the recent news, and the absence of TP from our stores, caused me to have a little concern.
I was running low-ish (i.e., about at the point where I would ordinarily buy more) right when the panic hit, and so I wasn’t able to get any then. Fortunately, my standard of low-ish has enough of a safety margin that I’ve been able to make it since then. Finally, today, I got to the store early enough that there was still some on the shelves.
I was planning on buying my usual four-pack, but the smallest size they had in stock was the 12-pack, so that’s what I bought. I still have most of a roll on the dispenser, and one “emergency roll” tucked in the back corner of my bathroom cabinet (which I’ve had for six years and never had to use), so a total of almost 14 rolls. I’m good until sometime this summer, now.
We normally always buy the biggest package of rolls (48?) because we have a place to store it. When it gets low, we get another.
Fortunately, we got a package just before all of this nonsense started, so we have about 40+ rolls in stock. We are not wasteful in using it, so we should be good for a while (cross fingers).
Ever since I became a Sam’s Club member (maybe ten years) I’ve purchased their store brand paper towels and toilet paper. Just before the current crises, I bought two huge things of TP and two of paper towels.
Two adults. We have about 24 rolls. So we’re good for 24 weeks approx. Our Safeway is restocked and panic buying seems to be subsiding. So, we could get more if needed.
we have 4 of the bulk packs from a wholesale ‘club’, which is actually our normal amount [2 dwellings, 4 people] which we have collated to 3 units at one residence for now [we are attempting to go ahead with our move out of connecticut to western ny …]
i learned with the drastic diarrhea from chemo that tp is a big mistake with the runs, and switched to just using a sitz bath to keep clean, so in a pinch I will just switch over to a sitz bath.
we have roughly a gallon of non-antibacterial liquid soap, and 8 bars of one soap and a dozen bars of the soap one roomie prefers, and at least 3 months of toiletries each, which is our normal shopping [we tend to get a quarter of nonfood items at a crack, makes shopping easier - we go off a standardized list.]

2 adults - 2 bathrooms. Each bathroom has a holder that holds 3 spare rolls, plus the roll being used. I also have a new package that says 12=24 rolls. I also have a spare roll or two tucked into the linen closet for emergencies. Like Chronos’ emergency supply, those spare rolls have been there for years. When there is an actual TP emergency, I’ll probably forget that they’re hiding there!
I’m the only one that uses the upstairs bathroom and I think one roll lasts a little more than a week. I haven’t kept track of the other bathroom’s usage. A roll probably lasts longer in that bathroom since it’s not used for lady peeing very often.
Perfect place to tout the benefits of the bidet seat. I bought one after reading that thread.
Cuts WAAAAY down on the use of TP. After the water stream has laved your privates for 2 minutes, all you need are about five squares to dab off the water droplets. Seriously. No matter what has come (out) before. More gentle on your tushie than scraping with paper, too. I haven’t had a colonoscopy since I got mine, but recalling the cleaning out phase of my previous two, the bidet seat will be a godsend when my next one rolls around. It has other benefits, too, but that would fall under TMI.
I got the Brondell, which according to the link is no longer available at amazon, but plenty are. Easy to install; I did it myself in about 20 minutes. BTW, if yours has an option to heat the water, you will need an electrical outlet someone nearby.
I have 4 rolls in the cabinet, plus the 2 partial rolls on the holders, one in each bathroom. One adult at home (just me).
Normally that would last me for several months, but this working from home thing has thrown things off a bit. Usually my digestive processes are timed so that I end up using the toilet at the office, and thus using their toilet paper. Since I’m not actually going in to the office now I’m using more of my own TP, so this supply might not last as long as usual. I still think my remaining supply should last at least several weeks. Hopefully that should be long enough for the supply chain to catch up. I hope.
4 rolls of “good” ( soft and thick ) TP and one roll of cheap TP, plus the rolls currently in each bathroom roll holder. When the shortage hit in earnest about 2 weeks ago, the aforementioned rolls currently installed were at 75 percent and 50 percent. Now they have 50 percent and 25 percent respectively. So far, what company I’ve had hasn’t needed to take any dumps, so there’s that too.
A full roll of TP lasts me about 4 or 5 weeks. Through either fortune and/or my dietary habits, my usage of TP is quite low…always has been. Perhaps 5 or at most 6 “squares” a day. My “movements” are as regular as can be, and though large pass easily and quite cleanly. When speaking to a gastrologist once during an initial consultation for a colonoscopy, and asked how I’m doing, lower GI-wise, I told him I’m a model citizen.
At this rate I should be good for at least several months and hopefully the supplies will loosen. Of course, when I get down to just one or two rolls and have to go out and get more, I’ll still feel like some will think I’m a panic-buying asshole even if I’m just getting a 4-pack.
