That article was fascinating! Who knew that Paige Davis was a bitch on wheels (to paraphrase) and that Ty doesn’t know what he’s doing!
I disagree. Paige sounded busy, and the homeowner came off as clueless and self-centered as she did on the show. Her husband too, what a piece of work. It is probably a good thing they are not going to reproduce (as loudly proclaimed by Captain Tact).
That Ty and Amy have help is not a surprise. While Ty is not a master carpenter (nor is Amy) to say “they don’t know what they are doing” based on the heresay of someone who came off not very well on the show is a bit hasty. Sure, he may have scratched up the wall, but things happen when you constantly rush (trust me ).
I have seen several other stories about doing the show that were done much better. Still, I enjoy the show for what it is. These self-serving (usually) stories really do not add anything, as its the designs and personalities that make the show, not who stiched the pillows.

There was a similar incident for the British version, “Changing Rooms”. This one couple who hated their room, done by Lawrence, went and told a british tabloid that the whole show was a scam and that none of the designers actually did any work.
The Changing Rooms cast, including the much-vilified Lawrence, confronted the chatty couple on a subsequent show, and it turned out the couple were the ones doing the exaggerating. Yes, the cast does have help, but they do design the rooms themselves.
Oh, yeah, and just pile it on, that desk looked like something from a macre horror/fun house in a really seedy carnival. Frightening.
I’d chuck that thing in the trash before the truck was out of the subdivision! The same goes for the cabinet head.
Now, for Vern’s room, where oh where does this man shop? Birch veneer plywood for 10 dollars a sheet? Even wholesale that’s dirt cheap! I want to know just who it is Vern is blackmailing to get this stuff at these prices. He’s got to have naked pictures of somebody.
eh, bad typo, sorry!
I meant to say “macabre horror/ fun house”
Either way, it’s ugly.
No kidding. Although a lot of their stuff is straight out of Lowes. I always have a chuckle when I see something at Lowes from the show.
I think it is the same way Gen (I think) got that $45 carpet piece. Being a designer on Trading Spaces must help a bit. If I had a store and Vern came in, I am sure I would find a deal for him too. After he posed for a photo with me, of course.
Vern always seems to get incredible buys on stuff.
He did seem to go out of his way to repeat several times that the place he got the wood was closing and he was just “lucky” to find it.
We discussed Vern in a previous TS thread, that he sort of cheats, since he’s a professional designer and has access to deals and discounts that the average homeowner can’t get.
In the one yesterday at 4:00, a repeat of a college fraternity and sorority TV room make-over, Doug pulled out several yards of fabric leftover from another show. I wonder if he charged the whole amount of fabric to the other show, or if they actually broke it down by yard, and then saved it and charged this show for the amount of fabric used.
