Just opening the thread a bit early.
They’re back in Orlando again, and from the previews, Hildi’s destroying a wall, and Frank drops a box of something (on purpose), breaking the contents.
LOVED Frank’s room… so subdued, very unlike him. The fireplace was beautiful. Such nice things he said about Amy. AND we finally saw a money exchange!! The HO just swearing up a storm cracked me up. “Get the hell out!” Tee hee!!
Hildi. Hildi, Hildi, Hildi. Normally we consult an electrician BEFORE we start dismantling walls. Liked the slate/tile combo outside the door, but I think that’s about all I have to say positive. There was just too much of that deep red… it was overwhelming. Did anyone else catch Hildi trying to get the HOs to paint the couch table? “I can’t paint the table…” I kept thinking they were just gonna get a wild hair and say “Well, Hildi didn’t say WE couldn’t do it!!!”
Will probably have more to say later…

Carter Oosterhouse Porn Star Quote Of The Week is from…hell, the whole ep was pretty tame so I guess it’s from Hildi:
Now if only she’d left it for him on the night stand.
I loved how Hildi tried to get the HOs to paint the other-room table, but since when does furniture being in another room mean it’s off-limits?
I liked the red but it looked like a pretty jarring transition to the kitchen. The pattern didn’t thrill me and I would have liked something with fewer, what do you call pattern bits? Fewer of those.
Frank’s room was meh for me. It’s what the HOs wanted but I thought it was pretty dull. Where did he go $105 over budget, and why is it that Frank can go over budget and just pay off at the end while with Gen, Paige is on the floor of the room rolling up her rugs?
I thought the netting was a little corny, but other than that, I liked Frank’s room. The tile mosiac was great and I liked the color scheme.
I liked the fabric Hildi chose, but it should have been used sparingly, not over every surface of the room. The three panel drapes were beautiful, and if she had covered the couch with something plain, the room would have been ok. As it was, it was overwhelming.
I hate hated hated how Frank’s room had the windows all closed off! Its a nice open room and him blocking all the windows made it look so small and enclosed.
I would think Hildi’s pseudo-porni line would be her giving a refund.
Am I the only one that likes Hildi?
My girlfriend’s mother was saying how awful Hildi’s rooms were, so I decided to watch a few episodes. I thought the rooms were kinda cool.
Loved Frank’s room - for once he stayed away from the cutesy touches. So serene - love the tan & blue effect. Probably my all-time second-favorite from him (that kitchen with the serape on the ceiling was his best!).
It sounded like Hildi might’ve received a stern talking to at some point - she clearly said “If I’m going to continue being on Trading Spaces then I can’t paint furniture from other rooms”. Injunction, anyone? Her room was bleeh - too much red, too much of that fabric - it looked like chicken pox. I did like her light fixtures, though.
Oh, Mudshark, you haven’t seen the infamous Hay on the Wall episode, have you?
Or stapling 6000 flowers to the walls of the bathroom.
Or when she painted the sofa and chairs and left them out in the rain.
Frank’s room was nice, but it didn’t scream Beach Cottage to me. I don’t know what it was…it seemed like he was on the way to the beach, and then made a wrong turn somewhere. The fireplace looked like it had gaps at the bottom where they didn’t cover it all with tile. I LOVED the weathered wood treatment…that was perfect! I think it would have seemed more Beachy with the blinds open. At least they didn’t have a lot of walls to paint.
Hildi was an idiot again. Of course Amy Wynn (loved the ponytails, BTW) isn’t an electrician, and she isn’t going to touch that wall. She’s not licensed to do so. Why paint it and then destroy it? Like I said, idiot. And how much does it really cost to move light switches and outlets, hmmmm? When she said she was going to paint the furniture I thought she was going to spray paint the sofa again. :shudder:
I liked the light fixtures, but I agree with Brynda, the fabric everywhere was too much.
Great episode, and terrific homeowners. I loved all of the censoring necessary when the man walked into Frank’s room. Too funny. The room was lovely (if a bit, dare I say, plain) but he was a leetle over the top.
Hildi’s room was one of the best ones from her yet. The black shoji screens were too much. The room was already too dark and didn’t need the introduction of a black element. Speaking of dark – I would’ve made the red a contrast element instead of the focal color, doing one wall in the red and using the cream in the fabric as the other wall color. And definitely pare back the fabric. Curtains, yes. Slipcovers, no. But the light fixtures and the curtain rods were really lovely.
Frank’s room: B+ It was pretty and livable, but it lacked that joie de vivre that is the Bielec trademark.
Hildi’s room: B- Too much of a good thing can become bad. After a while, the intensity of that room will make it unlivable without major changes. As usual with Hildi, good ideas, poor execution.
Have they ever shown the homes of the designers who appear on TS?
I want to see if Doug and Hildi’s places are the monstrosities they often create.
I want to see if Frank’s place has the kitsch that he often creates for his homeowners.
That room was stunning, soothing, and ready made to sink into and relax.
He was a skosh over the top, but I think it was understandable.
Hildi’s room didn’t turn out that bad-but I wasn’t crazy about the print. However, I LOVED the lamp shades.
Frank’s was cute-although I thought the netting over the coffee table looked stupid. The painting he did on the fireplace was gorgeous.
The reason Hildi couldn’t touch the stuff in other rooms was because these homeowners had said that only the stuff in that room was allowed-everything else was off-limits.
Hildi is a complete moron, though. As were both couples-they were so annoying.
loved frank’s room. i’m a blue, green, look like the ocean, person; that room suits me.
hildi’s was great for a hildi room. i don’t think i could stand all the red, i liked the fabric, but i think the room was just too vibrant. there has to be a “calm” area somewhere to rest your eyes.
at least hildi’s homeowners don’t have to redo black walls.

One of the best episodes of Changing Rooms was when Linda Barker and Lawrence Lewellyn-Bolles (sp?) did a room in each other’s home. At the reveal, Lawrence repeatedly apologized to every HO he’s ever encountered. I’m sure they’ll reproduce the same episode over here soon.
Seriously…how come Frank can go 10% over budget and pay it off while Laurie (I think now it was Laurie and not Gen…the meat art kitchen was Laurie, yes?) is literally rolling up rugs to return to stay in budget?
Oh, and how come Frank didn’t paint the chimney if it was such an eyesore? Make it blend into the wals a bit instead of those big fugly dried weed arrangements?
Heck, forget Doug and Hildi, I want to see if Kia lives in some kind of plastic flower, hanging bed, astroturf, wallpaper border palace.
The sad thing is that she probably does. And likes it.
I didn’t like Frank’s room, but Frank has never actually done a room that I liked at all, so no suprise there. As others have said, Hildi’s would have been a lot better had that busy fabric not been all overthe place.
Completely. I think the female red HO was the only one I didn’t want to throw a rock at. And the red male HO writing that note for the orange team on his headshot was incredibly tacky.
Always. It’s in the rules: if you don’t want it messed with, remove it from the room.
I didn’t get to see it. I’m house-sitting & my sister only has sub-basic cable. Bummer.
My impression was that Frank had returned something already, so he had the money in hand to give back to Paige. Gen-or-Laurie probably had not had time to return the items that made her go over, so she had to remove them from the room at the last moment. That may have even been intentional-- to show how she really wanted the design to look before being forced to compromise.
I actually liked Hildi’s room this time, though I agree that the print fabric was used too much. The lamps were neat. As for Frank’s, I’m not big on theme rooms, and the same went for this. The blue thing holding the TV stuck out like a sore thumb, but I did like the muted colors elsewhere.
did anyone catch the new trading spaces family on sunday?
gen and edward, with carter and new host jon.
interesting… you would think with 2 more people they would be able to do more things.
i liked both rooms. edward had to drop his ceiling idea. they left the pieces incase they want to use them. i really liked the cat statues.
gen’s room was really nice and blonde.
