Was that a new Trading Spaces 9/6?

With Edward re-doing a bedroom and Hildi making over a living room? Great ep and I don’t remember seeing it before. Discussion?

i thought hildi’s room was rather cold. i would not be comfortable in a room like that. good grief, what is with her and things on the wall that don’t work? also i thought there was a ban on her using furniture from other rooms. i seem to remember that she mentioned it in one episode.

edward’s room was a bit better, a little warmer. the coffin thing was funny. the chand. was very nice, the topiary’s didn’t quite work out. i think they would have done better returning the moss and getting spray stone and spraying the whole thing one stone colour.

Season 4 did start airing on Sept. 6.

I thought they were both new–I haven’t seen the Minnea…Minneo…Minnio…Gen’s-hometown episode before. She looked so much like her mom.

I enjoyed the 8pm episode much more than the 9pm episode. Edward’s room ended up being aggressively neutral, IMO. I would imagine that I would have become incredibly sick of it in no time.

Hildi’s room had that Spartan look that I find myself liking; especially for one of those living rooms that look like they never get used anyway. It didn’t look contemporary to me, however. It reminded me of the interior of a Czarist palace that I saw somewhere on the internet. (I couldn’t find a link. Googling for “Russian interior design” returned porn. WTF!!)

I think that Hildi’s room will be improved considerably when the wall hangings that she put up are replaced by some real artwork.

I, too, was also really bothered by the fact that she stole furniture from the basement to put in the living room.

IMO the 8pm rooms came out much better. Except for the fact that Doug replaced “nougat” with the essentially identical “parchment”, the only difference being that he had a collage-type pattern to the finish. The corner piece that he had for the television was a great use of space, and for a guy who dislikes painted wood, I found the paint job to be quite attractive. Although Doug seemed to be an Uberdick in that episode, the back-and-forth between him and the home owner was fun to watch.

I really liked Genevieve’s room–especially with the desk in the nook with the curtain. That was a great desk and she put it to good use. I have to say that Gen had the design of the night. Kudos.

Funniest line of the night…

Female HO: I hope it’s not red.
Male HO: As long as it doesn’t have a big picture of Hildi, it’ll be fine.

I had to explain to Mr. Kitty why I just about peed myself.

Rocking Chair… she can’t paint/permanently change things from other rooms. That’s why there was a collective scream of “paint the table! paint the table!” from across the country when she said “I can’t paint the table, because then I won’t be on the show anymore.” I was terrified for those sofas, honestly- if I had just spent $2500 recovering my sofas purposely for another room and she’d screwed them up, she never would’ve made it out of town- but it looked like the HOs can just pull the slipcovers off (and then hopefully use something to get the tape reside off the wood). I wasn’t all that impressed with her room at all… there was no perceivable changes, and I give the silverleaf a week before it starts flaking off. Did she ever say what the heck she spent over $950 on? Was it the tables?

Poor Edward. Did he really just not get it? If he’d used something other than grey, it might not have looked so much like a coffin. And I felt badly that his topiary idea didn’t work out (but KUDOS to him for actually listening to the HOs). I think the husband genuinely liked it, but the wife was less than impressed. Still, it was an improvement. And I really like Edward… it’s always nice to see what he does.

In the 8:00 episode, was Doug making out with one of the HOs during the bumper to commercial? The kinda-redhead, that Paige asked if he was going to propose to anytime soon? Creepy…

From a thread I posted just minutes before this one, so obviously neither of us knew about the other:

Trading Spaces 9/6: Or, Doug ISN’T Gay?
Really, I was so surprised to see Doug flirting with a HO that I can’t remember most of the episode. Who knew? Maybe it was the leather pants, but I always assumed he is gay. Now I am not so sure. What did you guys think?

Ok, on to the rooms. I liked Doug’s parchment walls, but hated the curtains. The corner cabinet was nice. All in all, a B- from me. I thought it just didn’t come together. Gen’s “botanical” room was a bit better, but again, I didn’t like the curtains, especially the ones separating the alcove from the main room. IMHO, a shutter-type screen would have worked better and fit the garden theme. I liked the wall color, though, and the window theme was carried out well.

On Episode 2, I (as usual) hated Hildi’s room. The silver leafing was a good idea and looked good on TV, but looked like hell in the close-ups and therefore I would imagine it will look awful IRL as well. I hated the slipcovers for the couch and thought using them was a cheat. Now the HO has couches she doesn’t like in the living room and in the basement, where I assume the pink ones ended up. Before the episode, she at least had couches she liked in the basement. I also (not as usual) hated Edward’s room. The male HO was right: It looked like a casket. Too bad, because it had nice lines. A different color and a different light fixture would have helped, although I was not crazy about the muslin idea in any form, really.

Both the 8:00 and 9:00 episodes were new. I didn’t like the paint in Gen’s room… it was too harsh of a green. It should have been a softer shade. I did like the botanical prints, though. I thought the sunroom should have had bookshelves and a big comfy chair for reading. It would have made a neat library, in my opinion.
I hated the valances and curtains in Doug’s room. That yellow srtipe was ugly. And the triangular tree things. I did like the blue TV cabinet for the corner.

Isn’t Doug gay? That kissy-face with the HO had to have all been staged.

She did staple the fabric to the bottom, though. I’d be mighty pissed about that, if they were mine, and I’d just spent $2,500 recovering them in leather. I hate when they take stuff from other rooms.
And she ruined that painting that was already in the room. Granted, it was kinda ugly, but to take it apart and paint over it and SIGN HER OWN NAME is the height of arrogance. She’s got some mighty big balls.
The silver leafing looked like crap in the close-ups. You could see it flaking off, even after they supposedly sealed it.

And the topiary ball things in Edward’s room looked like watermelons. I know his plan was screwed up by the HO’s allergy, but he should have scrapped the whole thing, rather than trying to just cover them with the crepe paper. They looked funny. I liked the gray-washed wainscotting, but the muslin did look like the inside of a casket. And how do you clean that? It will get really dusty quickly.

As a home owner, I would want it signed.

Like a confession.

But the fact remains, she destroyed someone else’s art.
I find that appalling and unforgiveable. If she didn’t like it, she should have just taken it out of the room.

Plain canvases are fairly cheap, aren’t they? She could have created her own artwork instead.
Hildi never ceases to amaze me.

So it was new!

Damn football! Damn only having one Dish receiver! Damn Ivylad for being such a pig with the remote! Doesn’t he understand priorities!!

:Ivylass goes off weeping, fearing she won’t be able to post in the TS threads until after January:

Never fear Ivylass…don’t forget one of them will be repeated today at 4. (That’s where I’ll be watching it, since I had no idea we were back to new episodes already!)

Yes, Ivylass, according to the TLC website, today’s 4:00 repeat is the Hildi/Edward clusterfuck.

Among the finer points:

  1. Hildi recovering beautiful leather sofas in an ugly 80’s disco-style fabric. These are the same sofas that she “found” in the basement that the HOs just paid $2,500 to recover in leather. She both glued and stapled the fabric to the sofas. Hildi comment, “Think how much they’ll be worth when I get done with them.”
  2. The god-awful silver-leafing job on the trim. The male HO said it looked like candy wrappers. In the closeups in the reveal, you can easily see it looks like crap.
  3. Hildi happily destroying the original artwork from the room, including taking it apart and painting over it. (It was five or six canvases all hooked together. She pried them apart, painted over them, signed her name and hung them back up.)
  4. Edward pissing off Ty by asking him to rip thousands (well, a lot) of pieces of luan into 40" pieces for wainscotting. He could have easily bought pre-cut wainscotting for not much more than luan.
  5. Edward trying to put up muslin over wallpaper, but the wallpaper shows through. Then the HOs had to hurry up and paint over the wallpaper. The muslin is then tightly shirred at the top and bottom (where it meets the wainscotting) and looks JUST like the inside of a coffin. Not to mention the ceiling of the room is arched and adds to the coffin-look.
  6. Edward uses big kid’s balls to glue crepe paper and moss to make topiary balls, but the HO informs him the other HO has allergies, so he just uses the crepe paper and paints them in shades of green. The balls look like bizarre round watermelons.

Not Edward’s best effort. Typical Hildi smarmyness, with her “I’m so great” attitude.

Well, yeah, but it did lead to the fabulous comment by (IIRC) the female HO… “That’s what I’m afraid of.”

::snort::

Oh, and remember if you’re watching the episode later… Ty’s method of cutting the luan into wainscotting features a dead stop, which is a fabulous idea and reduces cutting time, but the way he’s doing it is a damn good way to lose a hand. Idiot.

Any pictures?

Hildi is going to get her ass sued, someday. Or else someone is going to hire someone to rough her up.

I wouldn’t let her design a litterbox, let alone a room in my house!

Yes, and if you watch closely, a couple of times the luan doesn’t quite line up to the dead stop, because he was going so damn fast.
I second the “Idiot” remark.
