Training Day (spoilers)

Why did Alonzo set Hoyt up to be killed by those Hispanic gangsters? He already said he’d back Alonzo up, take his medal and not make waves. Did he just have a hunch that trusting Hoyt to keep his word was too risky?

"Make sure that bathtub’s clean . . . "

He had set it up days before. He couldn’t be sure Hoyt would be able to suppress his ‘do-gooder’ leanings and keep quiet. Or come back to him wanting a big cut of the money.

Which brings me to a question. Did a similar fate befall the other members of the unit? After all, Alonzo needed a million to square things with the Russians, which means he would have needed their cut of the loot as well.

It was a good film. It was an incredible performance by Denzel Washington.

So all that big talk about being a wolf, being part of the team, it was a snow job all along??

(hoping I never run into a real-life Alonzo)

I agree with the above posters in that Harris planned all along to use Hoyt to murder the drug dealer, skim money off the bundle they found, and then to kill him off once his usefulness had ended. The only two things that saved Hoyt was his saving the rape victim, and he used Harris’ techniques against him. So I guess you could say that Harris had trained Hoyt well. That was quite an intense movie. I hope that Denzel gets another Oscar nod. The character he portrayed was quite an actor as well. It was quite chilling when only a few hours earlier, he was chillin’ with the drug dealer and drinking his liquor, and then shotguns him to death. I guess being in dept to the russian mafia to the tune of one million dollars will do that to a person.

Alonzo is a psychopath. He doesn’t have any friends, only temporary strategic alliances for business purposes (or for the purpose of getting his rocks off).

.

I noticed the same thing ** medstar **, after Harris kills Roger and he gives his little speach to Hoyt (while in the car) about how he is a leader and has the eye and all that. When just seconds before he was setting up the details of the hit on Hoyt.
