Trampoline recommendations please.

Looking for a good backyard trampoline for kids fun. Actually, it should be all ages. I want a full size rectangular tramp.

Not sure if it should have a safety net so please share thoughts on that if you have experience.

3 daughters. Eldest is 11 and not overly athletic. Middle is 6 1/2 and very athletic, and youngest is 6 1/2 (and autistic) and not very coordinated. The tramp should be able to grow with them through high school but doubt if they get competitive with it.

thanks in advance.

Um, don’t? It starts like this, but ends like this.

Seriously though, sorry, I know nothing about trampolines.

I just threw ours out this year after maybe 7 or 8 years of use. Why mine sucked:

  1. Although it weighed like 300 pounds, it still got pushed around and toppled in high winds. Look into buying some corkscrew-like hold-downs to prevent this.
  2. The netting, and the outer padded ring were not UV compatible. If you can find this option, go for it.
  3. I was going to recommend easy dis-assembly so you could bring it in in the winter. “Pacific Northwest.” Maybe this isn’t a problem for you.

My kids never injured themselves over the entire life of the trampoline. They really enjoyed it.

First, any kid that is going to use it even once should have a safety talking-to. I am assuming you know that, but it is worth saying. One of my childhood pastor’s brother was training for diving on a trampoline, jumped, hit the edge of it and broke his neck. Paralyzed for life from the neck down(actually, he paints with his mouth and makes a living as an artist now).

Second, I do recommend the safety net. I am no safety nut and don’t force kids to wear helmets when riding their bike, but this is something even I’d do.

Lastly, while I don’t’ have a brand to recommend or a model, I will say this. Don’t go cheap. Get a nice one and it will last and be the safest way to go.

We have a 14’ trampoline and it’s a good size for two people. Definitely get the net. The bottom of it will tie down to the very edge of the mat (where the springs attach). This means the springs and frame are outside the net. If you fall against the net, you will generally land on the mat and not hit the metal parts.

I’ve found the trampoline is a great way to spend time with my kids. It’s fun to bounce together and get some good exercise.

thanks for the replies.

filmore, what brand did you get? 14’ means the length of the frame, right? Not the length of the pad? What’s the width?

My brother has a trampoline and all four of his kids loved it. My kids have played on it some.

Ya, I think the net is a good way to go.

Ours is a round trampoline and the pad has a diameter of 14’. I think the brand is Bazoongi? I actually got the trampoline on craigslist. That’s not a bad place to look if you’re comfortable with evaulating the build quality. You can get them for a steal since many people just want them gone if they are moving or the kids are grown up. You want to make sure the frame is solid and the mat does not have any tears and looks to be in good quality. Also, make sure it has everything you need since getting the right frame pads or net afterwards could be tricky.

Does anyone have experience with Springfree™ Trampoline’s? I check them out today with my youngest. They don’t seem to bounce as much as a spring mattress but seem to be pretty safe. Pretty lightweight too, which I am not sure is good or bad?

Typo?

You can find em on Craigslist free any day of the week.

You’ll need to replace the mat every couple years it seems. Sun rots the stuff that holds the rings on and they all fail. Cheaper to just get a whole new mat. I find them online pretty cheap.

No major injurys in the 5 or so years we’ve had ours. Gotta let kids be kids.

Thats all I got!

Twins, with the younger twin on the autism spectrum and thus with many developmental delays.

My wife is Chinese. In Chinese, the word for brother or sister actually translates as “older sister” or “younger sister”. So, she’s always been the younger sister/daughter for us even though that means about 45 minutes younger.
