Okay, I’m finally getting with the times and am getting a DVR for my cable. I was wondering if I can burn something to my DVD recorder that’s already on the DVR hard drive. It seems like I can just set the DVD to record the video channel and play what’s recorded on the DVR, but I’m not sure. I won’t have it til this weekend.
You might not be able to record directly from the DVR or directly from cable, but you should be able to record it from your television. There are so many piracy controls now and signals get broadcast that prevent you from direct recording. The copy you get from your TV should be good enough for your own use.
My new DVR/DVD system is the other way actually, you can record the tv signal onto the hard drive, and you can ‘dub’ from the hard drive onto a DVD, but you can’t record directly to a DVD. Seems to work alright like that.
Tivo has a built-in “record to VCR” option. But I wired my Tivo to my DVD recorder instead of to a VCR, and now when I select that option it burns a DVD. Easy as pie.
Tivo also has a function (Tivo Desktop) in which you can network a computer with your Tivo. You can then copy files from Tivo onto your computer and burn them with the computer’s DVD burner.
