Transsexuals and Freemasonry

If a man who is a Freemason decides to get a sex change operation and become a woman, is he expelled from his lodge in some official way? Has this ever happened?

If a woman has a sex change and becomes a man, and decides to live life as such, and this is public knowledge, will this individual be barred from becoming a Freemason?

Is there any precedent for either of these two things ever happening, and if so, how was the situation handled?

I can’t answer the questions but I can say that I, as a woman, have witnessed some First Degree initiations.

I can’t explain exactly how it came to pass, but suffice to say several male members were in on it…

Why can’t you explain it? It’s not like you’re going to get into some kind of trouble. I have to ask how exactly that went down.

I can’t explain it because there are people on this site who know me and when/if I explain how it came about, it would implicate certain gentlemen who are still in the Order and holding relatively high offices.

I am not worried about ME getting in trouble. I am protecting those who were involved in getting me in.

Couldn’t he…er…she…become involved with Eastern Star?

Oh, and the Masons really shouldn’t perform their funeral rites around impressionable children. Put me right off th Shriners, that did, and 40 years on I would improve their pipe band if I do say so.

Different animal. Very different rituals.

What do Mason funeral rites involve?

Well, It was in Monte Vista, CO in the early 1970’s. I was like 8, and already bored by having to wear a suit and a long funeral service… but it involved lots of incomprehensible chanting by several men wearing identical dark suits and aprons and white gloves. There was also a lot of hand gestures with the white gloved hands. …pretty much exactly like the Hollywood cliche’ of putting a spell on someone. This was done at the graveside after the casket had been lowered. I have a vague recollection of something or other being thrown into the grave at the end…but that may be an artifact of the time that has passed.

It was also weird in that the Masons were not at the funeral service proper, and stood apart and well back at the graveyard until after the casket was lowered…then they made their entrance, did the ritual, and departed without speaking to anyone else there. Much different than a KofC chap who’s funeral I attended where his KofC mates served as ushers/honor guard at the funeral proper.

I am a Mason and I have serious doubts that a women can get into a Lodge while a meeting is going on, and even more so when a Degree is being conferred.

If no one knows you, you will be checked at the door before entering. I find it hard that you can disguise yourself good enough to pass muster in front of a lot of other Masons.

I may be wrong, but, I do not think it is possible. Sorry.
