Travel Gurus - help wth fare alerts?

Hey all you travel gurus - I am trying to find out if a fare alert service exists out there somewhere that will allow me to input origin and destination and have it alert me if RT fares fall below a certain threshold.

I don’t care about dates - I want to travel to a certain place at a certain price and am flexible on dates. Quite flexible. As in anytime between now and the end of 2015 flexible.

I’m aware of the usual suspects like Hipmunk, Expedia, Bing Travel, but they all need you to input dates and then you get alerts telling you what the current price of that trip is.

Any ideas?

Quick searching brought up airfarewatchdog.com and their alert system. This site claims that it has an up to date twitter that shows deals and of course you can sign up for e-mail notifications.

The same airfarewatchdog says that cheapair.com is the only US site that has open travel dates, up to 330 days and that all other sites have gone down to 30 day search functions with open travel days of 1 to 3 days for tax reasons. However there doesn’t appear to be an alert system with cheapair.

However I think your best bet might be getting friendly with a Travel Agent.

eta; I haven’t used either online service.

Fare Compare.

Thanks I will look at Fare Compare and cheapair.com

I am also considering assigning one of my staff to investigate airline APIs and see if they can program me an alert. Totally legit use of company time, right?

kayak.com will send you a daily email of the lowest price to that destination. It’s going to send you mail when it’s higher than your threshold, but you’ll see it drop as soon as it drops.

Who was the company that advertised they would ‘bing’ you if a fare showed up that was at or under your goal amount? I can remember those ads being all over in the '90s and can remember hearing the ‘bings’ coming from people’s computer, but bless me if I can remember the company?

Anybody?? Bueller??
