So, I’m a reasonably poor Indian travelling to New York, and then to Dartmouth, Hanover a couple of weeks from now. It’ll be my first time in the US actually. Now, NYC is ok, I have some friends there I can stay with, but I have no clue how I should travel to Dartmouth, and once there, where I can stay (two-three days) for cheap. Can any dopers suggest the best course of action?
Dartmouth Coach offers bus service from NYC to Hanover - http://www.dartmouthcoach.com/schedules.html That may be your cheapest option.
Staying in Hanover isn’t particularly cheap. The Chieftan Motor Inn is probably the cheapest regular option, but it’s a bit out of town. Do you know anyone in Hanover? Depending on when you visit you might be able to get a bed in a frat house for a few days if you have a contact there.
I’ll second the Dartmouth Coach. It’s a good service. It drops you off in Hanover right in front of the Hanover Inn, which is owned and operated by Dartmouth. It’s not cheap, but it’s pretty nice, and if you’re going to be doing stuff at the college without a car, it’s going to be basically your only option within walking distance.
The only other, cheaper, hotel options are far enough away that you’d need a car or a ride to get to the school. I assume the purpose of your visit is at the college?
And we ARE talking about Dartmouth College in Hanover NH, and not Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, right?
He or she says “Dartmouth, Hanover” in the OP.
Ah. Yes. Indeed.
I’m in the Dartmouth coach right now! Thanks folks
