Travelogue -- a New World MMP

Whew, what a way to end the week! I had training at 9, a meeting at 10, another meeting at 10:30 at which time I found out that there was a VTC at 3 that they really wanted me to attend. So I didn’t get out of there till after 3:30, and I get to be back at 10 on Sunday night. Have I mentioned how much I love my job? <yawn>

I preparation of the stupid work hours, I’m going to stay up as late as I can tonight. I’ve got some sewing to do, and I’m going to play with clay for a while. I might do some laundry, too - I need to keep occupied at least until midnight - preferably till 1 or so. Then I’ll pop a sleeping pill and crash. I had some caffeine with supper, which I never do - I’m hoping that helps me stay awake.

**FCD ** and I may go out sailing for a little while tomorrow. It’s going to be in the low 80s with about 11 knots of wind, so we can have some fun just skittering around.

I think I hear some ice cream calling my name…

Yay on the good news, Tarra!

I read your Pit thread too, SCL; what a horrible person. There are no words for the gall it takes to show up like that. (Well, there are, but none of them are polite. :D)

Yeah…estates turn people rather crazy. I have a friend who had to change the locks on her Dad’s house because her siblings tried to raid it before all the legal formalities were taken care of. (She was the executrix.)

Yay on paying off debt, too. I was so relieved when I paid of the credit card debt I’d accumulated in grad school. I’ve managed to pay off credit cards every month with great regularity since then.

I’m just glad the week is over. Gas people seem to have finished stuff off, finally. They even left grass seed on the part of the lawn they messed with. Of course, It’s a strip of lawn I was going to plant some perennials in, so I’ll be mulching it until the other digging is over with. Very kind of them to save me the digging.

Ice cream sounds good. I think I’ll go find some.

Back later.

Hi.

Skimmed.

Yawn.

Hungry.

Later.

Great news, Herbs! Ruling out the really scary stuff is worth a yahoo or three! I know you feel much better now.

That’s really a shame about your Oma, Taters. I contrast that with my mother’s mother, who lived in the same little town in Iowa all her life, and one of my mom’s sisters and one of her sons were the only other family members not to leave. When Grandma died, Aunt Ruth went through her things and sent every single family member little mementos of her – not necessarily valuables, but things that would mean something special to each person. And Grandma, a few years before she died, sold her house to my cousin (the one who stayed there) and split the proceeds amongst her kids. So the whole thing was done with no anguish on anyone’s part.

But Papa Tigs had a cousin like your one uncle – his grandmother lived in an old farmhouse full of now-valuable stuff, Depression glass, collectibles of every sort. He “carted off all that junk” for her, and made himself rich in the process. He also made off with things that belonged to other people, like a hunting rifle that Papa Tigs’ grandfather intended him to have. Nobody else ever saw a penny of the proceeds or a memento. I truly don’t understand what makes people behave like that – but obviously it’s pretty common since most of us know of at least one case where it happened.

Anyway, enough depressing stuff. My current dilemma is trying to figure out how to move what was snowbunny’s TV from the front bedroom she occupied to the back bedroom we occupy. But Papa Tigs isn’t supposed to lift over 5 lbs right now (and I won’t let him even if he thinks he can!), and I’m not sure how good lifting an extra 75 lbs or so would be for my new knee. So the next step will be finding a strong neighbor we can hire or something. There’s some young guys around the corner who I think work construction; maybe I can pay a couple of them $10 to do it for me! I like having a TV in the bedroom, although right now I can at least lounge on snowbunny’s former bed (and her lovely 3-inch-thick memory foam mattress topper) and watch her TV if I’m feeling like watching TV lying in a bed. I’m someone who prefers having my feet elevated at all times, so that’s my favorite TV-watching location.

**MamaTigs ** - I don’t know how how far you have to lift the TV, but would it be possible to skootch it on to a wheeled chair and roll it to its destination, then skootch it in place? Just a thought…

tarra, yay!!! <flinging confetti with wild and reckless abandon>

Ice cream is good. I’m still awake. I haven’t been to my studio yet, but the night is still young. <yawn> It should be interesting to see what I can do when I’m half-asleep. A whole new level of work, ya think?

Guess I’ll finish my ice cream and head downstairs.

ever have one of those days when no matter how much your brain tells your body to move, your body just feels too weak? I have no idea how I made it thru PT tonight

Yay for the good news, tarra

Hugs, and other appropriate contributions to all. I am going to crawl into bed early in an effort to get some real sleep

Spicynumber–Yahoo! What a relief to ONLY have a screwed up thryoid (I have one, too).

Home from work and did some stuff for the party tomorrow. Now I’s tired and going to wash my hair and watch TDS. Must be up early tomorrow for party (starts at 0930). Wish us good weather, please.

The TV is way heavy. This is most of the reason it didn’t come with me. Though I do want it back eventually, don’t forget!

Congrats, kaiwik! She’s beautiful. I love other people’s babies. g

I probaby saw one of – if not the – biggest dogs I ever will see today, Gracie the Irish Wolfhound! Fortunately they don’t need elaborate grooming, but it took two of us to brush her down in anything like reasonable time. Her paws were the size of my hand! But she is sooooooo sweet. The funniest part is that I must have been busy when she came into the shop because late in the morning I was sent back to get a now-bathed-and-dried dog, and there she was on the floor! I still wonder how I didn’t see a dog the size of a smallish pony (no, I don’t think I’m exaggerating!) coming in!

Done clay-playing for today. I threw the body and head for a big cat jar, plus a saucer for under a flower pot and a trim support. I also underglazed some pieces that my kid and her fiance made when they were here. I was going to decorate the monster jar, but I’m getting tired and I don’t want to mess it up. I’ll do it tomorrow.

It’s supposed to be nice and cool tonight, so I’m going to open up the windows before we go to bed. Another month, and I can open up all the time.

I got my electric bill - I think it proves the new air conditioner is much more efficient. We used about 3/4 of what we used last August, so yay! Not that the bill was any less this year, since electric costs have gone way up because of the price of fuel. Oh well.

So far, so good - maybe I’ll make it for another hour…

Home. Tired. Details in the A.M.

Yay Herbs!

Tired. No idea why I’m still up.

Wanna see the holes that were in my neighborhood earlier this week? Well, really, you can mostly see the barricades. The number of blinking lights at night was quite impressive.

Off to beddie bye.

McUNE, nice to see someone who is so enthusiastic about their hobby. I think you topped the chart with 4 smilies in about as many lines.

My latest hobby has been coloring. . .as in coloring in coloring books. There are an amazingly lot of coloring books for adults. I’ve been using twinkling H2Os and having a blast. It’s just basically mica in cake form that creates water colors when wet.

Herbs, :::snoopy dance::: on the negative result. That’s great!
It’s bedtime for me. Good night everyone!

Dotty, where you at? You’ve been AWOL for a while. ~waving~ good morning to you anyway.
Lunch, good morning! Be good!

Good morning, everyone! I was up way too late, which, of course, means that I’m up way too early. I’ve got lots to do…cleaning…planning for the Chicago trip…possibly going to visit my brother…

And I’m tired. Maybe that will turn into sleepy soon.

Sure is quiet here…of course now I’m remembering that FCM is turning her schedule around.

Breakfast was a grilled cheese sandwich with tomato. Needed to try my new panini pan. Also, I had the ingredients. And wanted to make sure there was still gas. I’ll be paranoid for a while.

Back later…

Good morning. I’m up and caffeinating. It’s a BEAUTIFUL day here – cool, sunny, low humidity, light breeze. I’ve got the windows opened up and can probably keep them open all day, I hope I hope! I adore fresh air; maybe it’s a reaction to New Orleans, where we had to keep the house shut up tight eight months of the year because of the heat, and the other four it was still so humid and no breeze (well, except for the occasional tropical storm or hurricane) that opening the windows just wasn’t the same. So I enjoy it now whenever I can do it, which around here is a whole lot. And the breeze off the water (since we’re only six blocks from the South River, about a mile upriver from the Bay) is just heavenly!

Didn’t FCM say she and FCD were going to go sailing today? They certainly couldn’t pick a more gorgeous day for it! That may be why she’s not here.

Lots of blinking lights indeed, gt. I bet your street looked like a Christmas tree at night with all the lights twinkling away!

Where is Dotty? I have a trivial question to ask her, since she’s an Aussie (even though she doesn’t live there now). Something a friend of mine who’s been studying in Australia for the past few months mentioned; I’d love confirmation from a native. We don’t have any other Aussies here, do we? Yoo hoo, Dotty! Come out and play!

I should probably be a good girl and work today since I spent most of the day yesterday knitting and watching TV – but at least it was productive knitting, I’ve only got maybe six inches left on my fluffy brioche scarf. It’s a fabulous pattern; the whole scarf weighs about 50 grams, less than 2 ounces, and yet it’s going to be amazingly warm. I’m going to knit myself one, I do believe; this one is for the craft show, plus it’s not my color.

Don’t everyone have too much fun today!

ETA: Pretty, pretty colors, Heffaroo! I didn’t realize they made adult coloring books. But using colors like that, with a paintbrush? It’s a bit more challenging than crayons, I do suspect.

Hello everyone. Won’t say “Good Morning” because it’s more like Good Evening here… been busy and missed morning role-call (Sorry Roo! But I have been good today – after all, what else could I do if you weren’t around? ;))

Was at the gym yesterday and today after 3 weeks of nothing (due to the vacation). Realized two things:

  1. I have put on an additional 8-10 lbs that I do not need. I know have to lose a lot of weight :frowning:
  2. I had to cut back my routine – I’m out of (what passes for, in my case) shape after only 3 weeks.

That is all.

So THAT’S what it’s like to wake up when your body tells you, without an alarm?

I could get used to that.

Coffee’d, egg’d, bacon’d and getting ready to hit the road and do stuff.

Might go later to see the Ides later, they’re playing at a place we hang out at pretty regularly, and a buddy is playing with them these days. Unless the weather turns wet, in which case we’ll probably find a warm dry place to catch a ball game and a beerverage.

Cuervo says hi everyone, and asks if he can drool on you all while you scritch his chin.

Mornin’ everyone.

Last night’s dinner was nice. We were on time, it seems everyone else was late. Anyway, the food was good, and we had a nice time visiting with each other. We were going to see a movie too, but in the end we decided to postpone it. I’m glad really, because I was kind of tired.

Some friends are coming over tonight. We’re just going to hang out and visit here. So, today I must definitely make sure things are tidied up. I slacked in the department this week. It shouldn’t take too long, I hope.

I need to make some coffee. I find my eyes are shutting while I’m typing this.

People can be so rude! There’s a neighborhood-wide yard sale going on at the community center next door, and people are of course parking up and down the street. But some rude person parked RIGHT in front of my mailbox! And our mail lady will NOT deliver if the mailbox is even remotely blocked. So I just walked around next door and called out to ask whoever it was to please move it. Nobody would 'fess up, of course, but when I started walking back to the house, they were pulling out. Thanks for nothing, idiots. :frowning:

Well, at least they moved it. However, that was most definitely rude.

Still haven’t made the coffee, dammit. I keep nodding off.

It’s a good thing they moved it when they did, too – the mail lady came by not five minutes later. If it had been a Sunday, I wouldn’t have cared; but on a mail delivery day, it’s just seriously inconsiderate.
