Yikes snowbunny! Sendin’ prayers and good thoughts your way. Maybe we should have BBBobbio on standby just in case.
Seriously, here’s hopin’ you don’t have to evacuate.
BioTigs your post confused me. I mean do mites even have finger and toe nails? Why would you want to give sump’n that makes you itch a manicure anyways?
ETA: First on page 9! WOOHOO!
If it keeps raining here, you might need the rowboat!
Pass me the rain, then!
I’ve been told that their biggest concern for the town right now is smoke, which isn’t too bad at the moment, but I’m still worried. However, my aunt thinks it’ll be fine, and since she’s lived in the area for twenty years I’ll try to believe her. And I’m expected at work in the morning unless something drastic happens, which is fine by me really. I’ll feel better if I’m busy.
Yep, things seem to be dramatic here – freeze or burn indeed! Tonight it’s supposed to get into the upper 30s. I may have to turn on the heat. I really didn’t need Big Mama Gaia turning it on for me…
Oooh, lots of good thoughts headed your way, palebunny.
I’m working on organizing all my Chicago stuff. Cuz it’s fun. I can hardly wait for my vacation.
GT
rigs, some years back, I was loaded into the car for a “surprise.” I discovered that we had just bought a jet ski and trailer. Yep, we took out a loan for something like $6K (it was in the mid-90s, and that was a nice chunk of change) to buy this powered toy. So I could be the party-pooper who didn’t appreciate the “surprise” or I could suck it up.
I will admit, it was fun… for a while… then it sat more than it was used. I was so glad when we sold that sucker. Obviously I don’t know your situation, but I found my experience to be one of knowing when to pick your battles. I can’t recall if I said anything - I’m sure I must have, tho, because there have been no more surprises. All big purchases have been discussed. So there’s that.
Less than 90 minutes till I get to go to work. I need to pack some food, since there won’t be any snack bars available. According to a couple of people who have had to do these night adventures, lots of eating goes on, and not of the healthy kind. Swell. I’m gonna take some yogurt and some cucumbers and, oh, I dunno - I’ll see what’s in the fridge. Guess I shoulda planned better.
Is it Friday yet??
Hang in there, snowbunny! Be safe, and be sure to call your mother frequently so she doesn’t worry. Hope the wind shifts and the skies open.
Snakes, I’m so sorry to hear about Libby, and all the drama with the ring. It’s amazing how grabby people get when someone passes away.
FCM, thanks for reminding me. I have a cucumber that’s past its prime, so I need to eat it tonight, before it goes completely over the hill. I have big plans for a turkey sandwich, and it would be lovely with some cream cheese and thin slices of cucumber.
My great uncle was killed in an accident this weekend, so I’m heading out of town for the funeral tomorrow.
It’s been a rough summer for my family. We just got done sorting out my grandmother’s things. I can’t remember if I posted it, but she died in May. She was 98, so she had a good long life, but it’s still been a lot of stress on the family. My mom is supposed to be getting copies made of some of her pictures. She had some wonderful photos from when she was in high school and college. I’ll put them on my website some day. I never even saw any of those photos until recently. It’s funny the things you don’t know about people until after they die.
palebunny, I hope the fire doesn’t head your direction. Stay safe!
Only in my dreams. It’s going to be a long and hectic week, and I’m already looking forward to next weekend. On Sunday. That’s gotta be some kind of record.
Well, I’ve got some food packed and I’m wearing work clothes. I think I’ll leave a little early so I can drive thru BurgerWhopper or something, since I didn’t get motivated enough to pack a meal - just some munchie thingies…
I’ll log in just long enough in the morning to let you know I’m alive, then I plan to crash. Crash - not a good work when I’ll be driving tired…
Laterz, all! <yawn>
Drive-by to say hi! In NYC now, weather is crappy but still having fun. Miss you all though. Muah!
Looks like someone has already put up a MMP - I’ll wait for yours, swampy. The official MMP, as it were.
snowbunny, were you able to get hold of your grandma to start working on the weather for you? My mom, mumpers, did the weather for many years. Any special need, you name it, she could come through for you with the weather of your choice at the exact time specified. It was quite astonishing, actually! She insists she’s now retired, but I suggested to snowbunny that she might be willing to come out of retirement for this. Also, Ketchum has enough money in it of one variety or another and is such a big tourist attraction that I’m sure massive efforts will be focused on keeping the town safe should it come to that. But it still sucks.
At least Debbie, who lives waaaay out in the boonies outside Ketchum, isn’t in the area of the fire, although she’s been getting massive amounts of smoke there, too.
Forest fires are no joke. A friend in California had to evacuate last year because the big Day Fire threatened her area. And I remember once driving across central Idaho (across Lolo Pass, one of the most beautiful drives in the US) and them closing the road behind us due to fires. It was a trifle scary because once you’re committed to Lolo Pass, you’ve got nowhere to go but onwards!
If anyone’s interested in tracking snowbunny’s fire, it’s #30 on this page, the Castle Rock Fire. Here’s hoping there’s either rain or the winds die down rapidly!
Sunday: Employee hurts back, may be out for ??? When I was calling around store to see if I could round up help, another manager asked if this store was cursed. Apparently so. I may need to hire BBBobbio just to deal wiht the wounded.
I am sorry for your loss, MagicEyes.
I’ll keep you in my thought and prayers, snowbunny.
Good luck, FCM! I always hated third shift. Still, it gave me a chance to have beer and eggs for breakfast.
It’s not a rowboat. It’s an 18 foot motorboat, complete with very 70s “metallic” blue painted stripes, “white” “leather” interior. All I need is a pack of PallMalls and a Farah Fawcett do.
It is now on the grass adjacent to the driveway (I pointed out to the husband that none of us–except him!–could use our cars with the boat IN the driveway).
Kill me now. Or better, kill him.
Boats are fun–to visit. I don’t mind cruising up a river or on a lake for an afternoon, except that my vitiligo is a worry with all that sun, none of the kids like it(I bet they would w/o parents), and it’s expensive as hell. There is back story to the boat that I’m not gonna share, but suffice to say that I’m not real happy and I hope he finds a place to store this soon.
Magic Eyes- I am so sorry for your loss. Take care.
Magic Eyes, I am sorry for your loss.
I think I’m gonna have some ice cream.
I’m way closer to it than Debbie, actually. If they do want people where I am to evacuate, I’m going to her place. She asked if I wanted to come down there tonight, but I don’t want to bother with that unless it’s official. The condo smells like smoke, and that’s with all the windows shut, but that alone isn’t a reason to leave. It is a bit unsettling, though!
Also, if anybody’s curious, the county website has a running update going here. I am more amused than I should be at the fact that the maps linked to on the site are obviously pages that somebody drew on and scanned in. I’m on the south edge of town, a block west off the main road. The blocks are tiny. They’re sending serious Forest Service fire people out now to have them take charge by morning; they’re not going to mess around what with all the money here. Shame I don’t have any of it myself. sigh
Yes, MT, I got ahold of Grandma. She said she’d try. I assured her I knew she was retired and all, but anything she could do would be more than welcome. We’ll see what happens.
I know I’m going on and on, but this is a first, and Og knows I didn’t expect something like this to happen! I’m going to go crawl in bed, with my nice new comforter and all, and watch B5 before I go to sleep. There is absolutely no point in my staying up worrying all night.
I’m sorry about your great-uncle, Magic Eyes. Hang in there.
