Travels with a Toddler – an Adventurous MMP

I’ve been surfing and knitting and watching part of the parade and took a nap.

For MamaT: They have the video of Sunday’s concert posted on YouTube on the inauguration channel. Resolution isn’t very good, but it’s better than nothing.

FCM, one of the reasons I stayed home today was so that I didn’t have to hear what anyone thought of the inauguration, pro or con. (And, for that matter, subject others to my views; y’all get a little bit of the joy instead  )

I’ve got a meeting to go to tonight at the park. Don’t really feel like going, but I really need to.

One more nap, I think.

Back later.

GT

Well, that was easy. My tools were mostly already packed, and I got a few accessories together. All that’s left is supper and changing into grubbies.

Just tossed some barley into the soup. It will be a good, warming supper.

We’d been living and working in Broome, Western Australia for about four and a half years but, although we liked the town and had some good friends there, it was just too remote and expensive, so I got a “transfer”* to Adelaide. We sent the dog direct with Qantas and the rest of us took the opportunity to have a four week holiday and drove. We purposely made our days fairly short and took the long way around. We’d definitely do it again.

** They put me on a fly-in/fly-out (FIFO) roster where I get flown to one of the northern bases, normally Broome, for 16 days of work, including the travel days, and then flown back home to Adelaide for 12 days off. My roster started with days off too, so after my month holiday I had a further two weeks off. Six weeks away from work was nice.*

Don’t need any warming here. It feels like it’s 80 out there right now. Something for the “Strange even for here” files" - there was a guy on the corner of 5th and Market selling pies out of a duffle bag. Reminds me of the days when people would come into the shop where I worked and try to sell various hunks of meat that had been stolen from the grocery store a block away.

Since I was at work, I didn’t see any of the inaugurifying. DH might have, since he’s still unemployed and at home. When I get home, I have to sort out why scattered outlets are out around the house. He said that he heard a pop from behind the washing machine when he went to start it. If it’s anything more than a tripped breaker, I might just call an electrician friend of ours who’s been out of work for a few months.

It’s Himself’s day off, my darling daughter has been cheating death all day long by continually texting me starting at 0600 (I went to bed at 0130!) and I’ve just been wallowing in Inaugural coverage on MSNBC. We walked to our local for a slutty brunch which will be all I’m eating for the day, the dogs have had their obligatory ball chasing session and I’m just about late for nap I think! I’m just friggin’ giddy!

What a lovely, frabjous day… :stuck_out_tongue:

SmartiePants I just gotta know! How does one have a slutty brunch? Is the food slutty or the brunchers? Or both? I need to know cause I have an overwhelming urge to throw a slutty brunch now.

Home. Tahred. We had Chinese takeout for dindin. The little takeout place on the way home does a good General Tso’s chicken. I got that, soup and eggrolls. Oh and of course…

You will be the bearer of much good news

<snerk> away!

Got skettie sauce simmerin’ in the slow cooker. I figure by the time I go beddy bye it’ll be done. Tomorrow night’s supper shall be sketties, sallit and garlic bread. It’s a spend the night night. Plus it’s cold down heah so it sounds like a nice cold night’s meal to have.

Ok on to other things.

Later Y’all!

Just came back in to say I <3 Agony Aunt Ryl aka Spaz. Today’s snark, well, just a masterpiece! I saw that letter to Dear Abby a few days ago. My first thought was… oooooooh… I hope Spaz sees this one! Just. Beautiful. Snark that brings tears to the eyes. Sniff

Oh, in case any of y’all have not had the good sense to bookmark Spaz’s memorable advice columns snark, here 'tis. Now that you have it bookmark it. You will not regret it.

Every store in the strip didn’t open or closed before my store did. It was kinda like I am Legend with more snow, and fewer zombies. Canes play in Pittsburgh tonight.

: hurls rock encrusted snowball eastward :

Smartie, sluts for brunch? Why wasn’t I invited?

Game on!

I recommend switching the drop-down menu to “Description” so you can get it chronologically. “Order Added” is just all kinds of a mess.

readies baseball bat, sends snowball over home plate

Strange day. In no particular order:
[ul]
[li]The Blizzard Of The Century was a fizzle. Two inches on the ground at the worst, which melted within 2 hours. I wasted a half day of vacation going home to avoid the predicted traffic holocaust.[/li]
[li]Got a glowing performance review and tidy raise.[/li]
[li]Boss disclosed he was diagnosed yesterday with unspecified, operable cancer, which he’ll have surgery for AFTER he goes on a hunting trip next week.[/li]
[li]I took a 401(k) withdrawal to pay VunderKind’s tuition and some nagging bills. I checked the account last Friday, saw the appropriate amount was gone, and paid bills and bought necessary stuff yesterday. Stopped at the bank today to get a cashier’s check for Da Rugrat, and I’m $291 overdrawn. Called the retirement company about it. “Oh, that’s scheduled to be wired tomorrow.” :smack:[/li]
[li]As soon as I got home for the Snowpocalypse, there was an all-hands rescue page for a guy caught in a chain at one of the local sawmills, and I went. It was better than imagined, because it really was clothes caught in a rotary shaft with a broken upper arm, instead of the imagined crush injury.[/li]
[li]The foster dog from the last two weeks is promising to turn into a political scandal involving my wife and the animal shelter versus the sheriff.[/li][/ul]

I’m not making any of this shit up.

Bad day at work overall. Am very tired. The bloom is not off the rose, but I knew my giddiness was too good to last. <sigh> I got slapped down by a colleague (long story. She doesn’t work at my place of employment, but we do have small amount of professional contact, of which I will now make sure is even smaller). Christ on a cracker–I’ve been at the job 4 days. Could I cop a fecking break, lady? I told her I was new at this and she was just rude and boorish. Bitch.

Very emotional today due to that and the inaugural. Moved me more than I thought it would.

More work tomorrow, so off to bath and jammies now.

Bad day at work, and I think things are only going to get worse. I’m sick of the shit going on there, well and truly sick of it.

I did take time out to watch the swearing in and inaugural speech. I am excited about this new administration. I’m not naive enough to think that things will be taken care of anytime soon, but I am allowing a small spark of hope to ignite.

I guess I should see about some dinner now.

We got about four or so inches with a nice layer of slush on the road. University says that they’ll decide about opening by tomorrow at 6. I say they’re going to at least delay because the roads are going to be a sheet of ice in a few hours.

WOWCrack Roommate (a former New Yorker) came back today with many bad things to say about the stupid people on the road. Adopted Dad came home from work at 3 with many bad things to say about the stupid people who decided to stop on an off-ramp to let their kids sled down the hill. :smack:

I have a nice raw spot under my nose from all the tissues I used today. Must find some lotion for that.

I’m home and the power is fixed. I’m not sure how, but the bottom half of the surge protector our washer and dryer are plugged into blew out. Just the bottom half - the top three outlets are fine. For now, at least… Probably should buy a new surge protector. Strange though - it’s not like either machine draws a huge amount of power.

The really screwy thing is that the half-death of the power strip caused the GFI in a nearby bathroom to trip, even though it’s a completely different circuit.

One of these days, I am going to have my electrician friend over for steak and lemon meringue pie so he can try to figure out our wiring. It might only be 20 years old, but it’s really screwy. Oh wait, my carpenter friend likes lemon meringue. Ahhh… Who doesn’t like lemon meringue pie?

For lemon meringue pie, I’ll come out and look at wiring, gotti. I have no expertise in this, but I lurves me some lemon meringue pie.

That is a very odd day, Bobbio. Hope tomorrow is better.

Hope your tomorrow is better, too, rigs - on the work front, anyway.

I had a lovely, relaxing day. And am going to bed early. Really. So that I can get a proper amount of sleep for once and get up early and have a productive day. (Although today was productive; my scarf is very close to 1/2 done (it’s going to take 2 skeins and I’m almost at the end of the first one, yay!).

Off to knit a bit more, then bed.

Hugs to all…

GT

Hi. I haven’t read anything at all yet, actually. It’s a roller coaster ride here right now. Hope everyone is well.

Hello again peeps. I’m not very good at offering condolences for the various tragedies that have befallen you, but I do sympathize. But I hear scallops are good at soothing pain.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’ here. I pulled an all nighter. Yep. I didn’t have to get up even once to pee last night.

rigs don’t let her get to ya. Hope things at work and otherwise get better soon Taters, CutiePie and BBBobbio.

gotti there’s a bunch of stuff I’d do for lemon meringue pie.

Everybody else, yay, boo, hugs, gropes, trouts as needed.

Ok… need me some more caffiene and should get some brekkies too I suppose. Plus I must purtify.

It’s cold!

Later Y’all!

Up and out to join the fray. Am getting more tired by the day. Now #2 son tells me he has 2 parties to go to–one on Friday night (which is my late night) and one on Saturday. Kudos to him for at least having a social life, but there is no time for me to buy presents for these kids. Gah.
I find myself wishing for one thing: to not have to go in to tomorrow at 0530. I’m back to being a nurse tomorrow and Friday and I do believe it will suck. Saturday here I come!

I’m having One Of Those Days but, since it’s mild and anyway my work for today is done until other people can find time, I’m staying in. If I can get paid for spending a whole day at work waiting on people while healthy, I effin’ well can get paid for spending half a day prepping docs, then the other half waiting on people, while feeling dizzy.

That was one advantage of being salaried, I didn’t lose a day’s worth of money for taking half a day off.
