Attention all Dopers who play Travian or want to start:
A new server is starting July 30th, with pre-registration starting July 28th. Our current alliance on the 3x speed server is going down the tubes, as we started late and made some newbie mistakes at the beginning. Also, the 3x format, while fun at the beginning, requires too much time in the mid and late game, and some of us have actual jobs and can’t keep up.
So, we are all moving to the new server, US7 when it starts on July 30th. This will be a normal speed server, so really you can get away with just checking it for 5 minutes each day or less. We think we will have a good shot at winning the entire game if we work together and get a coordinated start from day one. If you want in on this momentus occasion, begin in the Southwest quadrant. Build an Embassy as quickly as possible, and message player Ellis Dee to get added to the alliance. If you miss the start date, don’t worry. Members who start a bit late aren’t hurt very much, and we intend to work together to make sure that everyone grows to their maximum potential.
I’m sure someone will be along shortly who is better at the game than I am to post an optimal beginners strategy, but overall our grand strategy is to build 3 settlers in our first villages, then move way out onto the unpopulated southern edges of the map with new cities where we hopefully can grow strong in peace. Through this plan, we can cluster our new cities together for mutual defense, while at the same time be out of the fray that occurs near the middle of the map.

Double build for Romans is powerful later on but I wonder if we should team up internally.
For example a Gaul, Roman, Teuton triad settle close together for mutual defence (Romans), resource shifting (Gauls) and raids (Teutons). Heck they could sit for each other if they wanted. It would also make it easier for coordinated alliance attacks. Giving a single target to a triad to hit at a specified time might be easier than giving multiple targets to multiple players.
In an ideal world that would work. In practice, it sounds a bit shaky and hard to coordinate. If you feel like it though, go nuts.
From what I’ve found in this game, Gauls are good at defense, but Romans can build faster. Teuton aren’t worth it unless you play constantly and have time to micro-manage your raiding of others. If we are way out in the middle of no-where, which is the overall plan, teuton may not be very useful. I intend to try Romans next time.

If you want to play around with the game for the next couple days, I’d recommend the 3x server, which is what we currently play on now. All orders are executed 3x as fast, so you can get a feel for how the game works before jumping in for the real deal in a few weeks.
I might get in on this. I tried the 3x server but I ended up starting next to what I like to reverently call a ginormous dickwad. I couldn’t get anything accomplished because he would continuously raid me with all three of his towns that he already had made.
But a fresh start when the server starts up I could get behind.
I’ll join back up probably as a Gaul this time around… Or maybe a Roman- I really like just gathering resources, and not so much of anything else. So I’d love to just sit there and help out you guys.
This looks interesting. I might very well sign up on the 28th, and play as the Gauls. It seems like they’d do well for my more defensive/support style of gaming.
I’m going to have to do research into the game and learn more about it.
OK, I’m in. I’ll be Amp village and playing as Gauls. I’ve played before for a few weeks before some alliance with a bone to pick with me utterly destroyed me so I should be able to contribute to the alliance quickly, hopefully. All hail the followers of CECIL!
