Trial by Jury about to premiere

Can you wait? Who all’s going to be watching?

Well, we haveta wait.

I liked it a lot, although I have issues with the lawyer’s approach to the truth. But seeing so many theater vets–Jerry (may he RIP), Bebe, and Cady Huffman herself!

“Remember when Ulla take stand? Ulla take stand AGAIN!”

underwhelming

I thought it was OK. I didn’t much like the structure of the show, too much jumping around between the various involved parties. Not that it was overly complicated, it just felt kinda muddled.

I got a little twinge when I saw Orbach again, I’m really going to miss seeing new work from that guy.

I missed the ending. Can someone spoil the last ten minutes for me? I vaguely heard something about an 8 to 4 vote?

There was lots of fussing around about the whole dog thing, as Bebe intended there would be. One guy was talking about how the case was being decided on this man having chosen to euthanize his own dogs, and pointed out that euthanasia suited him fine, as that meant less dog crap for him to step in. (Classy, that gent was.) A revote later on put it at 11-1, with Dog Crap Guy as the last holdout, but they eventually convicted him.

That was Cady Huffman? I didn’t notice, she looks different wearing street clothes.

L&O has a history of using Broadway stars, maybe it’s time for a new spin-off, L&O: The Musical.

It was a bit hard to see Jerry in this episode. He looked thinner, and his voice was slightly different. His Lenny Briscoe this time around seemed to be forced casual, as opposed to blase cynicism. Maybe my perception was colored by the knowledge of his death.

I agree, I kept thinking he looked thinner and just tired. He was just such a great actor. I’m really going to miss him.

As for the show, it has potential. It seems like the original L&O doesn’t do as much with the trial part as they used to and focuses more on the investigation. I like courtroom dramas, so I’m hoping that this show will pick up more of that. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it does well.

Very good show. I like seeing both sides. But, of course I watched only for Jerry. Cried when he came on-screen. I really, really, miss him. :frowning:

I’ve liked Bebe Neuwirth since her Cheers days (yikes, is she pale or what?!) but I didn’t care for the first episode at all. Having the creep confess to his attorney (for no apparant reason, since she clearly stated his guilt was a matter of indifference to her) is a way of calming the qualms of the audience (when he’s eventually convicted, there’s no doubt that he deserves it), but it screws up the story. It is ethical for an attorney to put a client who has confessed to her on the stand? Isn’t that technically suborning perjury if his testimony goes beyond the scope of the dog conversation into, for instance:

Bebe: So, how did you kill her?
Defendant: I didn’t kill her.

The defense attorney knows this to be untrue, and I find it unlikely that given a chance to cross-examine the defendant, Bebe wouldn’t ask this or similar questions.

Frankly, I though he should have been acquitted, since I find it irrelevant that he may have made some off-the-cuff remark (was it before or after the disappearance? I forget) about strangling dogs. By that logic, anyone who ever said “I’ll kill you!” in a moment of pique could be convicted of murder.

RIP, Jerry.
