Are you sure your town didn’t move Halloween? Lots of towns around me did, due to the Sunday storm & power outages. I got no trick or treaters last night, but I expect a lot on Friday.
Every year it seems houses with lights on have decreased in my neighborhood. It’s kind of sad, as we’re a neighborhood with a lot of kids.
We had our first kid at 530, by 8 the neighborhood was pretty quiet. At 810, a couple of teenagers knocked - they got everything we had.
This was the fourth year we had a teal pumpkin out for non-food treats. The first year we made 12 gift bags, all went. Second year we gave out 6 or 7. Last year, two. This year, none. One kid commented on the teal pumpkin, I explained the reason, and asked if she wanted one of the gift bags. She replied “No way! I want candy!” She left with her .25c of candy instead of a $2 bag of neat stuff.
One of the morning radio shows referred to Halloween Candy as “Weaponized Sugar”. Snort!
some towns around here DID “postpone” Halloween – they haven’t had power in three days now – but our town wasn’t one of them.
Nobody ever comes to our dark cove but we were out all evening anyway. In two hours my kid raked in plenty loot. Lots of chocolate. I try my best not to eat too much but I already raided the Reese’s cups. I allow myself one day, today, then I divide by “will eat” and “won’t eat”. Then she’ll share her “won’t eats” with her friends. Will eats will mostly be frozen for later.
Can I just say once again, please don’t be too hard on older kids who still trick or treat. I know my daughter is tall and she’s 12 but she is still a child. At least a dozen times last night an adult scowled, griped, or complained about her being too old. Another saw her walk up with mama and had to say “aren’t you a little old for this?” My daughter was so embarrassed she just turned around and walked away. Do I need to carry a sign that says “Please don’t judge, she has special needs!” or would that even be sufficient? Back when I was a kid all the teens went out, some with siblings but not always. The time we stopped this practice is the time we started partying. My daughter is not partying. She’s not being greedy. She’s just having the time of her life one night a year so why do adults need to make her feel like crap?
BTW how about not making this about your religion? Three pamphlets pushing their god and warning about hellfire made their way into her bag. If I’d seen them I’d likely have knocked on the door and handed them back. I really do try not to be judgmental about religion but PLEASE leave my kid out of it!
Sorry, ragey. Maybe I need some of that candy.
We had maybe 2 dozen kids between 5pm and 8pm. Good costumes, and they were all very polite. They all got hand fulls of good chocolate as a result, and we still have a good bucket full left. Guess my seniors are getting a treat after Friday’s quiz!
Zero. Just the way I like it. Apparently the steep, dark, quarter-mile driveway discourages not just the UPS driver.
First Hallowe’en in a new neighborhood, seemed to be lots of kids so we really loaded up on candy. Were giving out 2 and 3 per child but we still got a ton left over. Probably 80 kids, lotsa tiny princess/fearie girls, one boy had a Cyclops costume (the eye was electronic somehow and followed you around; no idea how he saw where he was going), another had a dinosaur outfit, eight feet tall walking upright, long tail, really neat. One (grand)father was made up farmer-style and while the kids are getting treats from my wife, I slip a Tootsie Pop into his bib-alls pocket. He turns to me and says You really think I need that? I reply, Does anybody? Good point, he says, and ambles away, fairy princess in tow. Nice bunch of kids all around.
Would anyone like a half ton of candy?
Huh, hadn’t thought of that! Since at least a few kids made the rounds… I wonder who would know?
But I imagine if anyone shows up anytime in the next two months I’ll still have plenty of candy to give them.
Variety box of 50 chip bags(not the tiny bags with 5 or 6 chips)-gone.
10-pack of nice smores-flavored gummies-gone.
25 count bag of yogurt gummies-decimated.
We had more kids last night than in the previous 10 years combined, but that was probably because this was the first Halloween it didn’t rain in 10 years.
Check your town website.
This was my 10th Halloween I’ve lived with my gf. Our home is the last of three on a private gravel lane. Ten years and not a single trick or treater. Every year we buy candy “just in case”.
One group. Four or five trick-or-treaters, including the costumed teenaged escort. Mrs. L.A. gave each of them three ‘fun-size’ Butterfingers.
We seldom get trick-or-treaters, so Mrs. L.A. was very happy.
Haven’t had one in the 25 years I’ve been at my house. But then I’m the only full time resident on the ‘road’.

This drives me crazy. Why do people care if a teenager or someone they think is a teenager comes to the door trick or treating? I was 15 the last year I trick or treated. We had a blast! I think it’s great any kid, any age would be out having a good time BEING A KID.
We live in a neighborhood of 3-acre lots, so the houses are widely spaced and there really aren’t many kids. We leave our lights out and don’t buy candy.
Plus we’ve got a yappy pug and a cat who constantly tries to escape - both bad news with people coming to the door. So we had a nice, quiet evening of trashy TV.
Sadly, no one at work brought in leftover candy. Dammit.
We got about twenty, but I can never predict. Some years we run out of candy, some years hardly anybody.
My church did “Trunk or Treat” last Saturday and got about 400 people.
Fortunately, I bought the candy this year, and got the Good Stuff. Lots of left overs.
Regards,
Shodan
We had a bunch of trick or treaters between 6:30 and 8:00. We bought way too much since the kids really weren’t greedy. My wife had to push them to take extras, and even then it was an extra piece.
I took my sons out along with a friend and his son. The kids had a pretty good haul, and enjoyed themselves. The dads were drinking beer while we walked the kids so it was pretty good.
We’ll give candy to teenagers especially if they are in costume.
Not a single one! Glad I didn’t put too much effort into it.
I never thought of this… what do you add?
The bodies of people that hand out Chick Tracts.
