Now I’ll admit that a lot of those 40 reasons for gun control were pretty silly. But by the same token, your argument of “I’m entitled to carry a gun to protect myself” is also pretty fucking stupid. (And just because you picked apart someone else’s obviously flawed argument doesn’t make you right by default.) I hope you don’t mind the fact that thousands of people die needlessly every year so people like you can have the right to “protect yourselves.” Come to think of it, you were actually pretty vague about who you feel the need to protect yourself from. Is it those pesky Negroes who are bothering you? Now take a look at these stats, fuckface.
Tripler’s plenty good enough to handle his own gnat-sized detractors, so I’ll just pop in here briefly to inform you that this is bullshit. He may be a SATANIC DEVIL SUPPORTER (who, among the NJ Devils’ fans, isn’t?:)), but that’s another matter entirely.
Oh, one more thing:
Around these parts, some of us actually, like, bother backing up what we say with an argument.
and you smell like CABBAGE! - [sub]and not the math maven “cabbage” who I magine smells like a square root or derivative function which smells sort of like Pumpkin Pi if IIRC [/sub]
Tripler’s point by point refutation was the funniest post I’ve read in a while.
Actually, I couldn’t finish it. It was too long and detailed.
I can almost see him preaching to some choir somewhere.
The image of a firebrand sermon delivered by an earnest young man, half in the bag, will be with me for some time.
Not a flame Tripler, just something I find funny.
Why? Because you say so? It’s great to be you, isn’t it?
If you’re accusing Tripler of some sort of racism, you’d better provide some clear links very quickly. So do it. Now.
Ummm…given that the study is focused on “homicide, suicide, and firearms accidents”, probably none (unless you are one of those who count legal defenses of life which result in a death of the criminal a “homicide”). Reading the article would have revealed this…
Is there a point here? Or are you purposefully disobeying Lynn Bodoni’s admonition in the locked thread about not starting Great Debates in the Pit, and about trolling?
Rockford please do yourself a favor and spend a few weeks reading the several hundred threads in GD where gun rights are debated in a (mostly) civil and intelligent manner.
Your correlation of racism with those who favor gun rights is unfounded and profoundly disgusting. You are no better than the bigots you purport to despise.
Everyone who’s responded so far has asked for cites and arguments on some of your other points, but this one seems to demand a request for a cite most of all.
How so? Explain to me how this is stupid. Explain to me where it I may be a moron to exercise my personal judgement to arm myself in self-defense - note I may not actually draw my weapon, but I may as well feel safer carrying it.

I never said I was right. I never said my opinion was almighty and infallible. And as far as yout “thousands of people die” statement, yer losing me. . . I get up every day at 0530 and put on green BDUs to make sure that I can think and speak freely. If you’re questioning my devotion to your and every other Doper’s freedom, then go take a long walk off a short pier.

Just did.
I have absolutely no idea where you draw racism out of my statement. You want to know where I get my protective stance from? Fine. Here’s a story for you:
I happened to be back from college for vacation one year. My father calls me up at about 1030, and informs me that one of his accounts has decided to retire, and paid off said account in cash, $2.2 million dollars. He asks if I can go to the bank with him, because he doesn’t feel comfortable walking around with that much cash on hand.
However illegal it may have been, I subtly slipped on my leather rig and carried my Sig 232 that day. Did I think “Negroes” were going to take away $2.2M in cash? No. I didn’t care. Nobody was going to harass my father and take away his livelyhood . . .
I have more, like the one where I got cornered by javelina in Arizona while hiking. I’ll thank you to let me exercise my own freedom, instead of having it dictated to me.
Funny thing, them statistics:
And I can raise the issue with a study that in states with more sunshine, people are more suntanned. What’s your point? I hope you don’t intend to outlaw sunshine, ‘cause then I’d get pissed off: I need some freakin’ warmth in my frozen location.
I still maintain that a gun is an inanimate tool used to express the intent of the user. Any other reference you want to read is up to you. I didn’t draw racism into this, you did.
rockford,
As the OPof the “40 reasons” thread please allow me to invite you to actually read the thread, your view of it as “an obviously flawed argument for gun control” means that you did NOT read (or understand) it.
And lay off tripler, he is defending YOUR freedom (and mine) EVERY DAY.
I would much prefer to have Tripler setting gun control policy than some knee-jerk weasel like Rockford.
The thread started by unclviny is classic and should be required reading for anyone who wants to meddle with other people’s rights.
For the record, I do not own any guns but I do firmly believe that I have a right to buy as many as I can afford. A quick look at the various terror warnings our government has issued makes me believe that if I want protection, I better provide it for myself.
Since Tripler is obviously too modest to debate this sentence, I’d like to point out that, on average, thousands of people like him die every year protecting our right to protect ourselves. Sometimes he uses a gun to accomplish that task.
Please point me to which of the 40 reasons you felt were not silly. I’d like to hear you back them up. Fuckface.
Whooshed by the whoosh of the greatest whoosh ever.
