Our own Tripler just made contact from Qatar where he’s stationed. Evidently the base he’s assigned to doesn’t allow him to connect to the SDMB, but he wants to say “hi” to everyone and let you all know he’s safe.
He’s been there for about six weeks now, and will likely be extended until September. He’s doing airfield work right now.
paperbackwriter has he been subscribed yet? Since he can’t from there and the deadline is coming up I’ll do it if he needs someone to help out. It’d be too bad if he missed out given the siutuation.
Tell him I said hi. Like him, I’m deployed as well, but in a much nicer place. Low stress, high per diem is the word of the day here, unlike what he’s dealing with. Give him my best.
Gosh, I wonder if his liver is gonna survive the shock!
You let him know that when he gets back that I’ll keep filling his ungodly beer mug/cocktail glass thinger of his until he passes out… several times over.
OhhhhYeah… and see if he can bring back one of those spiders encased in lucite. Man, those things freak me out.
Apparently the poor bastard can visit only some sites; the SDMB doesn’t make it through the base filters. Can you believe that? As if there’d ever be anything anti-American or subversive on here.
I’ve passed on your comments to Tripler. He appreciates the nice thoughts and says:
He has also said I can post this e-mail addy for anyone that wants to contact him with requests for such flags (or carbonite-frozen camel spiders): baranr@gimail.af.mil
Send a “Howdy!” from Dallas if you would. I was just thinking about Tripler the other day and how I missed his crazy post style! When I saw this thread my first thought was “hey, doesn’t he live in Canada?”

Those spiders ook me out while being cool at the same time.
