Okay, I googled it, so I won’t say here what answer I found (if any). I’m not even sure I found it. I found at least SIX different songs that mention “terrible mess” and only one of those mentioned anything about a “fool”, and I didn’t see any clear-cut answer to how long he’ll wait, although it does say where he’s waiting, and how long he’ll keep running.
I’ve never seen nothing like you!
What are the foolish things that remind me of you?
I’ve never seen a straight banana.
Incidentally, I believe I have seen, even eaten, a straight banana (or near enough) myself.
A cigarette that bears a lipstick’s traces, an airline ticket to romantic places. . . .There are lots more in subsequent verses. I am not going to type them all (even if I could remember them all).

People around every corner seem to smile and say…what?
How was Mr. Jimmy looking in the Chelsea drugstore?
Mr. Jimmy was looking pretty ill.
No one has answered this, so I’ll refresh it with a clue: the attempted reform was
♫ Tried to amend my carnivorous habits
Made it nearly seventy days … ♫
“We don’t care what your name is, boy
We’ll never turn you away …”
Low life, high life, oh let’s go. Where? (Take me down, Jimmy).
Part of your answer makes me think you have the right song. But there’s a line that definately says how long the fool is willing to wait, unless I have the words completely wrong. Which wouldn’t be the first time.
You wanna send me a PM with what you think it is and I’ll let you know if you’re right?
Down to Junior’s Farm. Everybody tag along.
OK, that’s enough to make me kick myself for not getting it earlier.
Another ten minutes, no longer. And it’s all a terrible mess because of a fool waiting on the wrong block.
Thank you!! You win the prize! ![]()
prize to be determined later
The reason I posted this one is that the “waiting on the wrong block” is one of my misheard lyrics. For a long time I thought it was a fool waiting on the wrong blonde, which didn’t make much sense. Didn’t understand why he was running after her if she was the wrong blonde. As soon as I figured out it was “wrong block” it suddenly all made sense.
That’s my favorite song with a whistle!
What did the Reverend Smith do when he saw through my disguise in church?
(a) Yellow
(b) Sit all alone
(c) Fly away (in the sky away)
He punched me in the nose.
What did the devil make, taking six days and nights to dream?
Then after resting on the seventh day, what did she wake up early to make?
Yes, as Enginerd got the right answer, that is the song I found. Now I’ll have to google it again to find the part about the ten minutes – I missed that before. In any case, obviously, this isn’t a song that I know.
Now this:
They looked like flows of angel hair, or even maybe like feathered canyons. (So beautiful!)
(a) What are they?
(b) And, in contrast to being beautiful, what do they do now?
Did anyone figure out yet what the youngest brother went to do for a living, for to maintain his two brothers and he? (Hint: Joan Baez, although I think it’s a traditional folk ballad.)
Last I heard of Chloe, someone saw her on TV. What was she doing?
Finally! I thought for sure someone would get this one quickly.
You know your birds, Cabbage Man! What about the rest of the quiz?
We’ve got answers for the black bird and the blue bird – but what about the bird left out in a cage in a storm (she’ll die if she’s left there), and the bird that, if it keeps flying, I’ll be back home with my love, who was alone for a long time?
(a) What colors are they?
(b) What does the bird in the cage in the storm dream of?
(c) What is different about the bird that keeps on flying?
(Clarification: We’re talking about two different birds in two different songs here.)
Hints:
Bird in cage in storm: Song by It’s a Beautiful Day
Bird keep on flying: Tina Rainford song, as least that’s the recording I know.
My sister bought one for a dime, then she put lime in it and drank them boat’ up.
