Trivia (mostly entertainment type trivia) Buffs Enter Here--->

Since the 3 sitcom actors thread is up, I’d like to invite any and all dopers to partake in the World’s Largest Trivia Contest. For more information (it’ll be updated more as the contest approaches) click here.

It’s a fifty-four hour contest including news, sports, TV, music, movies, oddities, commercials, etc. I can tell you that I’ve played on a team for 12 years now, and it’s always fun. To play in person is…well…an experience. 54 hours with 3 hours of sleep tends to lead to interesting comments, to say the least.

Anyone that is interested in playing (either on line via Yahoo Messenger or ICQ, or IRL), just let me know by firing an e-mail my way. Any trivia buffs will certainly help our chances. Over twelve years, we’ve been as bad as 480 out of 520 teams to as good as 38 of 620.

Eve, if you’re around, the books you write are the types of books I buy specifically for this contest. At the very least I may be sending some photos to you for identification, as the writer of the contest likes to throw in pictures for ID from the golden years of movies.

…yep, Gazoo, I agree: it’s a looooong time before NFL pre-season begins…

:frowning:

Sorry to bring up a long dead thread, but if anyone watched “Who Wants to Be A Millionaire” on Thursday, March 1, 2001, you saw a player of this contest in the “hot seat.” I was at a local watering hole playing volleyball, so I watched the show but couldn’t hear it. In any regard, I’ve heard he discussed the contest with Regis and the the contest writer has learned that Good Morning America is going to cover the contest.
(Hey, there’s not a lot to do in Central Wisconsin. I haven’t seen grass since early November!!)

I’m willing. I don’t live anywhere near the area, but I can fire up Yahoo AIM for a healthy part of the weekend. I’ll just have to remember to bring my headphones.

Cool. We’re on-line during the entire contest, so I’ll make sure to have Yahoo messenger up the whole time as well.

Oh, iampunha, and any others interested, let me know your best areas of trivial knowledge as well. As the post indicates, 90% of the questions deal with entertainment - movies, TV, music, commercials, etc. Sports probably covers another 5%, and the rest is can probably be lumped into “general trivia.”

Well, I’m not volunteering to lose any work or sleep over it, but I’d be glad to help if I can. Remind me just before the actual contest too. Email with relavant info will be sent shortly
I am generally pretty good at entertainment trivia, especially Disney movies or who’s in which movie. (I am going by NTN standards here.) Books I am not too bad at, especially children’s books. Music, well I have a lot of 80’s new wave/alternative stuff down. With sports, I am useless. General trivia is okay for me too, as long as it doesn’t include spelling…

I know I already e-mailed you about this–just letting you know I haven’t forgotten! I’m still interested!

The new Trivia Web Site is up. Two weeks away and counting…as we say in Point, “Let’s play trivia Fast Eddie!”

This time next week, I’ll be in hour 27 of Trivia 32 Old Times. ICQ will be our “official” messenger service during the contest. (So if you’d like to play, I’ll need your ICQ number)

We’ll have someone type them in to the best of their ability so that dopers playing along can try to help out. Also, through the site above, you’ll be able to listen to a webcast of the contest. I think they only have about 140 or spots available to listen, so if you can, try to get in early. (The music on friday is all classic songs, so at least you’ll have good tunes.)

I just sent you an email.

Grrrrrrr. :frowning:

This weekend I have to fix my brakes, visit rellys in New Ulm, and start moving.

Why don’t you call up the radio station and postpone it til next weeknd???

puppy dog look

sigh

Ok. Ask again next year and I’ll show you how much I truly suck at pop culture
