I get it, but it’s still the internet, y’know.
I only have about 14 people on my block list, and three of them (I think) are currently banned. I try to read everything else, time permitting.
Suffice to say, Max does not agree with you.
When I was new to this board, about fifteen years ago, I sort of outed Colibri (may his memory be a blessing) — just a reference to his ornithology work — and he reassured me his identity was hardly a secret, and that was fine with him.
But of course we all try to avoid outing anyone without their permission.
My rules for protecting my identity on the SDMB are as follows:
- Carefully avoid posting any potentially personally identifying information.
- Forget about rule #1 and do it anyway (alcohol may be useful here)
- Repeat step 2 as needed
- Give up and just hope nobody cares enough to actually comb through my 21 years of posts in an effort to track me down.
I wonder if I’ve said enough to get doxxed, in my 20 years of boring posts. I don’t really have a big online presence, from what I’ve seen in googling my name.

Forgotten password? I don’t recall exactly when/how but there was an account migration at some point and a lot of us got spaces replaced with underscores but otherwise account histories maintained

Is there a link to that post where he’s admitting to trolling? I can’t seem to find it.
He gets into detail on the G-boards, about how he made fools of all of us for the last 18 years. He didn’t get a chance to post that here because he got banned for misrepresenting himself. But, his admission on the G-boards is stunning.
I don’t know if we’re allowed to repost that here or what.
So, an off board post is grounds for moderation and sanction here at the SDMB. That’ll be an interesting change of pace.
There was no shortage of reasons in the end to Ban him.

I was first banned from the SDMB a few months after discovering it, which is when I decided to create a more full fleshed internet persona for long duration trolling. I still feel like I am far ahead on points–I easily trolled right up to the limit of the rules many, many times, rarely violating them.
But, I can tip my hat to ASL for doing the leg work to expose me.
FWIW the peak fun I had trolling the board is when I used to calmly post that transgenderism is a mental illness (which it absolutely is, by the way.) I riled the forums up many times on that, and never got a single warning. It was effortless to do so because the rules are so easy to manipulate. Eventually over the years they closed down some of the best troll topics, and the board population has declined enough that it wasn’t nearly as fun as it used to be.
Riling up MrDibble (“acting his race” as usual) and his coterie of crybaby fans about the native American reservations was a recent highlight, though.
By the way I have 3 other accounts that I’ve trolled with over the years, some you probably would recognize, but most have been dormant for a while now. You certainly got the one I had put 85% of my effort into. I may resurrect one of them at a random point in the future, just as you never caught them as socks in the past you would never catch them again (I have far fewer detailed posts on those, so unfortunately ASL sleuthing won’t do you much good against them). It is funny to me how easily other socks get caught though–it’s like no one knows how to use VPNs, different browsers, or even VMs hosted by Azure or LiNode to post on message boards to obscure who you are, and it’s pretty easy to alter your posting style and diction as necessary too.
We’ll see though, as I said the volume of posting and the various topic blocks had decreased the entertainment value of the boards quite a bit. What did me in was in boredom I would casually post in non-troll threads from time to time, and it was harder to keep all the details (of my 100% manufactured) persona straight, but I did manage it for 18 years.
I thought it would be a final fitting middle finger to this lot to post a final follow through, while I’m sure I’ll be banned anyway I won’t post here again, but enjoy the clucking you’ll all get to engage in for a few hours now in response.

He wasn’t banned for this admission, but boy did it confirm things. But the lies he was caught in and general behavior over the years was plenty to ban him.
