Still not the brightest bulb but much less likely to start posting bizarre, poorly researched glurge.
Then again, is rarely outright unpleasant or sealion-y, so actually well-intentioned but poorly executed as a poster, unlike many, many others.
Agree - Ace has been doing much better and has been much more constructive as a poster as a result, even if he doesn’t always get it right (and who does?).

Magiver is performing at levels not seen since “airdropping Special Forces on motorcycles into Benghazi” in the thread on the Chinese balloon, where we’ve learned that;
- Intelligence-gathering is of absolutely no interest or value to our military
- The balloon was probably a secret super-weapon that was going to kill us all
- It would’ve been easier to fish it out of the Bering Sea or the Alaskan bush than off the coast of South Carolina
- Biden knew about the balloon before anyone told him about the balloon
- Biden proved the US is weak by not shooting it down right away, unlike Trump, who proved the US was strong by not shooting down the three balloons that entered US airspace during his administration
I’m surprised he hasn’t yet suggested Biden should have personally piloted an F-22 into Chinese airspace to shoot down the balloon before it even crossed the International Date Line.
In the absence of other evidence, I tend to judge posters’ credibility based on their general attitude of self-deprecation and, where appropriate, gracious accommodation of the views of others rather than knee-jerk hostile argument against them. From that perspective, Magiver, who persistently claims to be all-knowing and always right, has zero credibility, and if he’s ever right about anything, it’s a coincidence. He’s certainly not the only arrogant asshole we have like that. Dr Deth is famously another one.
I’m talking here about asshole posters who actually occasionally contribute value but are frequently annoying. We have others, who shall remain nameless, who are just a waste of space.

He’s continuing to do the same in the Alec Baldwin shooting thread, where even after thousands of posts of explanation, complete with detailed professional and industrial citations, he stubbornly insists that the actor bears primary responsibility for the prop firearm delivered to him by the dedicated expert whose sole job it is to ensure the safety of the prop firearms on the set. The basis for his position, as far as I can tell, is that he simply waves away the mountain of evidence and asserts that it is so because it seems to him that that’s how it should be.
I don’t think he’s a troll. I think he genuinely holds his stupid beliefs and is simply too muleheaded and egotistical to concede that anyone else could possibly know more than he does.
I do. A mean-spirited one too. He has deliberately and blatantly twisted things I’ve said to try to mean the opposite of what I said, and when I call him on it he doubles down and in an aggressive and rude way. When I’ve reported it for it I was told that it was “snarkiness” and if I call him out for it I get noted. So fuck him, he knows how to play the mods like a fiddle. He’s a crafty shithead and the oldest asshole on my ignore list.

I was of many minds about Magiver. I’m not sure if he’s a troll, but I am sure he’s a hateful jerk. Not that there isn’t a huge overlap between the classes. But thankfully they tend to fall into my ‘So ludicrous I just skip over the posts’ category rather than compelling a need to fight said idiocy, which can get very, Very irritating.
And as seen in my historical record, it would drive me up the wall if they misrepresented me as @Atamasama has had to put up with.

A troll 100% of the time? No, and there’s a long history showing this.
But deliberately a troll some of the time? Absolutely, and that long history gives him a pretty good idea of where the line is and how to just take a few steps over when/how he wants to.

American, I think (as most who post in the “Stupid Republican Idea” thread would naturally be), so probably meant to be in jest and not really cognizant of the nuance. Certainly ‘you lot’ would not come across as particularly demeaning to me if I didn’t already know.
I mean, it’s not nice, but derogatory is a bit of an overreaction, IMO. It’s completely milquetoast compared to how Republicans like him are spoken of (and to) around here (I’m assuming he was referring to Democrats? I’m pretty sure he identifies as Republican - or maybe I just read some of their posts wrong).
ETA: I think I did read wrong, from the My Job as a Republican thread. Not a Republican, looks like. Maybe just trying for a joke? Their posting history seems pretty normal.
I was not aware of any derogatory meaning, implication or usage in the phrase “you lot” and was just attempting to be humourous.
As an aside, in some places “you lot” is a standard way to address a group of people. Mostly British I think, and still not “nice”.
(I’m not saying this particular use is a regionalism as opposed to something else, I haven’t read it.)
