Trolls R Us Resurrections

You. In the corner. NOW.

Eh. I don’t mind other political slants and I certainly am in no place to criticize a certain level of snark or the odd potshot, but I’d agree that that poster was creeping closer to the line than was good for them.

Less of an issue with political slants in/of themselves but definitely let that slant dictate when/where to somewhat regularly inject themselves into threads without contributing anything of value and by toeing just over the line on being an asshole (which, if chemically induced, really is an issue).

And that’s where it becomes more of a problem.

But yeah, not to the level where they had no other contributions. So troll adjacent.

An entire box of Sugar Frosted Flakes?

Maybe I’m wrong, but I was under the impression that @Aspenglow was female.

You’re not wrong.

From my corner,
The question answer of the day,
Bootb b booted!

I guess being a mod is one of those jobs where, if you do it well, most of the time you hear nothing. And then someone like Bootb comes along and rants without any cause – jeez, that’s your feedback. It must be dispiriting at times. So I’ll take a minute to say to @Aspenglow, you’re a fine mod (and a fine poster too, fwiw). Thank you (and your colleagues) for the job you do.

Hijack over. Back to work.

Brief continuation of hijack:

Thanks, @Treppenwitz. My skin has thickened considerably since being given moderator privileges, so I slept fine last night. But I very much appreciate you taking a moment to express your thanks to us all.

Every single moderator here works hard to do the best job they can to keep the forum running smoothly and I learned from each of them. We don’t always get it right, but we really do try.

Just to confirm, yes, female.

Hijack over. Let me get back to being an asshole about hijacks.

Not so much continuing about the now-banned poster, but a note on them and another recently banned pest. I see that when the formal exit notice is posted in ATMB, most of them have fallen afoul of a BUNCH of the mods over multiple forums, as opposed to the trolls/trocks that these days get their attention pretty quickly and might only see a single mod before the boots come down.

As a poster, I’m glad to see there’s normally plenty of rope before the hammer comes down, especially for the really long time posters, but I do sometimes wonder if the old posters also get the familiarity pass from us in terms of flags: “Oh, poster WeirdHobbyHorse is up to their defense of [ WHH insanity ] and attacking NormMcNormalson, sigh, scroll past…”

In many cases, said WHH may get a topic ban (I saw one of these recently) because they can’t let it go, but the mods are going out of their way to salvage the poster.

Again, as a poster, glad to see it. As a reader, I just wonder though.

At least they went out with a bang. Sometimes a ban is more ambiguous.

The instance they were complaining about didn’t even draw a warning. It’s like going to court to rant about a ticket you didn’t get. And getting arrested for contempt or something.

That would be the sovereign citizen aka moron on the land defense.

Welcome our newest poster: Socks

That is one (well, maybe two) exuberantly mixed metaphor, but I wholeheartedly support your position here.

I would have said, “…before the horse is swatted.”

Except @Miller. That guys a complete waste of fucking oxygen.

(I kid, @Miller, I kid. Be gentle.)

Bob_Blaylock got the N95 mask thread locked in the Covid subforum this morning for his anti-mask screeds, and will likely will now get a topic ban from the mod loop de loop.

He already has a Topic ban so he will probably be on a long suspension. I’ll check.

That was 4 days ago, not this morning. He hasn’t posted since.

I’m compelled to say that was the most even handed succinctly written explanation for a moderator action I’ve ever read. Well done AG
