Let me introduce you to capitalism then, the weird societal function where people make business decisions based upon market preferences. Then, perhaps, you won’t make yourself so angry about issues which are easily resolved with a good business plan.
PETA Urges Vegans Not to Demand Separate Cooking Equipment - vegconomist - the vegan business magazine
…
Back in 2019 when fast-food giant Burger King introduced its first plant-based burger to the world, it failed to advertise that it would be cooked on the same grill as meat burgers. This could potentially lead to cross-contamination, something many vegans are not willing to risk. Burger King was then sued for “false and misleading business practices”, and although the case was eventually thrown out, this was a real turning point in the mainstream plant-based story.Fortunately, a multi-billion dollar company like Burger King has the resources to redesign kitchens, invest in equipment, and retrain staff, and now ensures no cross-contamination and has Vegan Society approval for its products. …
I don’t think any comment is even necessary.
Capitalism!
@Moonrise, I don’t think you’re trolling at all. I think you have shitty news sources that get you as riled up about a copyright owner changing their own work as you do about state actors like the Florida legislature literally banning books from libraries and threatening librarians with felonies.
And that’s not the real problem. The real problem is the deflection and misrepresentation when that is pointed out.
Instead of saying, “Oh yeah, I guess that was a group of like four people that made that demand, which is nothing like actual legislatures passing bills.” there is the double down and the appeal to martyrdom.
If several people take the time to try to educate someone on how the facts that one is basing their conclusions on are suspect, there is a choice. Learn and improve, or complain about a pile-on and withdrawal.
Those who claim to have no choice have abandoned their agency.
It could be interpreted as being a hypocrite.
Good point.
Being liberal about most issues doesn’t mean I’m liberal about all issues. Actually, this sort of day/night, choose-your-camp rethoric is in itself highly problematic.
I never said I was a big fan of capitalism either…
Final point on that.
Funny that no one is commenting on the extremely loaded use of the word “contamination”, a noun I reserve for nasty things that make you sick.
Funny how extremists on either side are always obsessed with concepts like “purity” and “contamination”. And that’s them using the word, not some biased news source.
Thanks.
That’s what I’ve always tried to do. Not hard enough this time. I’ll stop comenting on these issues and see how I can learn and improve.
Yes, but you are defending the tools of capitalism, so wanted to remind you that the theory of it allows for business formation and the pooling of capital to solve the very problems you mentioned.
Good luck to Mom and Pop stores who want to do good but can’t afford to have 2, 3 or 10 sets of equipment, then.
OK, please point out some reliable, unbiased sources that will allow me to have a better grasp on these issues (all of you, not just JohnT) so that I don’t find myself in this thread again.
This is called positioning, where you position your business as doing specific things. Any business which tries to be all things to all people is doomed to failure. After all, you don’t go to McDonald’s, order a two-piece fried chicken dinner with green beans and a yeast roll, and expect to actually get it, do you?
Then don’t fucking say that your fucking chips are fucking vegan and there’s no fucking problem, or are you too fucking stupid to understand that there is no fucking problem here other than in your fucking head?
Now, now. The onus is not on me or other posters to find reliable sources to convince you of something-otherthing. It’s on you to show us a mom and pop store going out of business because they are forced [by whom?] out of business to have “2, 3 or 10 sets of equipment.”
I’ll pull up a chair and wait. Should you find one such store, I’ll gladly retract my accusations of trolling.
The mom and pop stores specialize, it’s the big chains that want to appeal to all.
I’ve got 2 mom and pop vegan restaurants right down the street from me. I also have several other restaurants that are not vegan. But here’s the thing, they don’t claim to be vegan.
All of them seem to be doing pretty good business.
But this is a good example as to why some may suspect you are a troll. You misrepresent what people were complaining about, claiming that people were demanding that Burger King have vegan options, when that’s not what it was about. It was about Burger King claiming to have vegan options, while not actually having procedures in place to accommodate them.
And even though this was explained earlier in the other thread, here you are, making the same claim again. Like I said, I don’t think you are a troll, I think you have just been steeped enough in RW propaganda that you repeat it without any thought or consideration, so you end up sounding a whole lot like the trolls that wrote that propaganda.
I’ll personally make a decision on whether I think you’re a troll based on your ability to stop repeating soundbites and attempted gotchas that come straight from right wing trolls. If you don’t, then you either are a troll or you have abandoned your personal agency to them, and I will go ahead an mentally plop you into column T and not take you seriously again.
Check out AP and Reuters, as well as NPR and BBC. Avoid television news, as it is designed to make you angry, scared, or otherwise emotionally invested (and this is true of “both sides”, even if one side just lies its ass off constantly, and the other actually provides factual information). Never take a story from a headline, read the article. The headline is to catch your attention, not to inform you as to the contents.
If you want to watch news, watch Scott Manley or Frasier Cain talk about space and astronomy. Not all your news needs to be about politics, and it’s good if it isn’t.
Thank you. That’s clear.
Thank you for providing me with some sources that I should check. I’ll do that. As a matter of fact, I don’t watch TV, I don’t even have one.
@Charlie_Tan For the record, I was not asking for reliable sources for this particular point. I was asking for reliable sources in general, ones that will allow me to avoid misrepresentations and disinformation.
Most of the news I search out is in fact scientific. Linguistics, astronomy, history and archeology. The proportion of political news I read is very small because most of those topics bore me, which may partly explain why I find myself here. Lack of sound methodology.
You have a rich fantasy life!
I’ve already said not a troll but probably a self-important asshole (toss in poorly-informed - by admission a personal choice (!) no less - and deluded while you’re at it).
Emulating a certain 8-legged poster to this board by derailing this thread certainly isn’t doing anything to change that assessment.
Blame @Czarcasm for that, he made a mistake and did a direct link to a Moonrise post. That link I broke.
Seriously, if you all want to continue this semi-pitting, maybe take it to a new thread? I’m not suppose to split Pit threads though, but I guess I’ll flag it for @Miller to consider.
It’s a common term in the context of food…
Your ignorance of language is either staggering or you’re grasping at straws.
Imagine if during the time you claimed you were a Muslim, someone had served your eggs fried in bacon fat without telling you.
Wait, why am I even pretending that there’s anything to that yarn you spun.
Or more to the point, while telling you that they didn’t use bacon fat. Not just an omission, but a straight up lie.
OK.
I apologize for causing so much offense and perhaps anger with my insensitive comments on topics I know far too little about.
I will try to do better in the future.
First by checking the news sources that @k9bfriender referenced (and of course reading the whole article, I already knew enough to do that at least).
Then, by steering clear away from Geat Debates, a forum for which I neither have the knowledge nor the skills to participate in as this utter fiasco illustrates. There are other forums here where I will hopefully be able not to make a complete ass of myself.
