If he continues insulting other posters in FQ, I think he’ll get a string of warnings and eventually be banned. His ‘eccentricity’ has nothing to do with it.
Agreed; new posters get a short leash, especially when they ignore moderator instructions. His approach seems to be cite-free declarations of “fact,” and telling people who disagree with his statements that they’re dumb.
But, at the same, regular posters need to remember the thread is in FQ and not attack the new poster.
True. His demeanor and beliefs tend to attract energetic responses, but we have to remember to not feed him, even if he doesn’t realize he’s a troll.
It’s wrestling with a pig: you both end up filthy but the pig likes it.
That’s an obviously valid concept for an encyclopedia. This is a discussion board – albeit one with a tradition of generally well-informed and civil discussions. There is not in fact anything in the rules that can see requiring one to be smart, only to be non-disruptive. However, this is now way off topic. It was just a casual passing comment on my part, not anything I’m going to get excited about.

His Amazon page is basically a blog that nobody can actually read.
That reminds me… would anyone like to read my blog?

Incompetence can be disruptive.

His efforts to be a polymath and prolific writer might be commendable if he wasn’t so insufferably arrogant about it while simultaneously so creatively incompetent and factually wrong.
The thing is, when he is writing non-fiction, he does it very clearly and coherently (if with extreme arrogance) as seen in his introduction to A Brief Space Opera, for instance. And he seems to be well-read in classical fiction and philosophy. So he isn’t stupid, and isn’t incapable of coherent thought, he is just really, really, really, really, really, really, really bad at writing fiction. That places him in the same camp with plenty of self-published neurotypical people. (And so does the unwillingness to be edited.)

He’s an autodidact. (I know this because I read him claiming this somewhere, maybe his Amazon page)

True that,

Sure.
Just read a couple posts in the Biden dementia thread by someone named Wrenched Spanner.
Is he sincere in his belief that Biden is demented, or is he just poking for reactions. That was some grade-A goofballing.

Wrenching_Spanners is a long-time board member, they’ve been around for more than a decade.

Probably the former, pretty typical for someone who spends a lot of time listening to right wing media.

I’m glad he’s escaped my notice, then.
What tune are they rocking out to, I wonder…
I have a t-shirt with that image on it, proclaiming the last live performance of the Oswald Band, Nov. 24, 1963.
“I Fought the Law?”
“…Who killed the Kennedys? When after all, it was you and me.
…I mean, you, and not me, ha ha. I had nothing to do with it!”
What you can’t see in the pic is Sirhan Sirhan on the drums . . . clearly they are a Dead Kennedys cover band.
Brilliant!
