Again, no. He spent days using all kinds of language to talk about how deplorable immigrants were and how he despises them. Then, when he’s confronted with that, he busts out with this “I despise them equally, that doesn’t mean I despise them” bullshit.
That’s just fucking with us. He can’t possibly be sincere in that.
You do realize that well over 30% of the Citizens of the US despise immigrants coming across the Mexican Border? Don’t fool yourself, his responses are inline with a lot of people’s responses. Just not on the SDMB.
I fully reject the notion that “they don’t really believe it” must be a component of trolling.
If I visit a right-wing board to spout my bleeding-heart liberalism all over the place because i think it’d be fun to tweak their noses, that would make me a troll. Doesn’t matter how sincere I am.
Again, that’s not what I’m saying. It’s not his hatred of immigrants that makes him a troll, it’s his, “I didn’t say I hate them” nonsense that makes him a troll. The disingenuousness, not the repellent beliefs, are the trolly part.
It also depends on how you do it.
If you calmly disagree and tell them why, it’s being a contrarian but not necessarily trolling.
If you say things that you know will be inflammatory, like calling Donald Trump an America-hating traitor who would rather burn it down than admit that he’s a loser, it doesn’t matter that you believe it sincerely. You’re knowingly trolling them.
TOWP falls into that latter category for me.
Put him on ignore. Problem solved from your end, and before long I suspect he will earn himself a ban without any help from either of us.

I have read both of those statements you quoted over and over, and (no doubt it is my shortcoming) I can’t see the problem that so upsets you. First he says he despises them. Then he allows himself to despise them in degrees, acknowledging that there are middle grounds between being neutral about someone and the deepest level of despising possible (but the degrees are not caused by race considerations). Is that the problem, that he has degrees of despising that he didn’t talk about before? I wonder if there isn’t more context in the thread that makes it clear why this is a problem. I haven’t read the thread, so I can’t say except from what you quoted.
I tend to agree with you. I was just proposing what others may think… and suggesting that there is not much difference between the two theories in reality.
One thing I’ve noticed while reading the thread is that TOWP hasn’t called anybody names. Sure, he’s a little smug and infuriating, but he hasn’t resorted to insults. He’s been called plenty of names, but he’s remained civil. His opinions may be provocative, but his manners are not.

He’s expressed satisfaction with the idea of snipers murdering children at the border, and indicated a willingness to pull the trigger himself. The most important takeaway here is that monsters can follow Emily Post, and that manners are trivial in comparison to advocacy of child-murder.

Yeah, I think it’s his legitimate opinion. But we also had a legitimate Nazi, and they got banned for saying Nazi stuff. The statement by the Pit mod at the time (Miller, I think, but maybe Gfactor) was that it was just too evil to permit.
Fair, but the murdering children part was indeed added by LHOD.
Well, I unleashed that mess on The Pit, so it is now in Miller’s domain.
Thus far he follows the board’s rules and doesn’t cause trouble in general. But if that is beyond the pale for the Pit, up to Miller to decide. It is pretty gruesome.
