Trolls R Us Resurrections

I thought we didn’t usually @ posters in this thread, to avoid their unwanted attention.

Ah, you’re talking about the individual who made this post in which they confused the Articles of Confederation (PDF link) with the Constitution. I’ll quote that part of the linked post:

How is it not in the text? “Each state retains its sovereignty, freedom, and independence, and every power, jurisdiction, and right, which is not by this Confederation expressly delegated to the United States, in Congress assembled.

Mind you, that post was made just a touch over three years ago.

Apologies. I have no idea how I managed to make that mistake.

Sorry, habit (to check spelling of usernames).

SCAdian referred to 19th century people in the Confederate streamer thread. We can infer that he knew the thread was about the CSA flag.

(I think the Betsy Ross flag was used during the 1770s-1780s Articles of Confederation and Perpetual Union, as opposed to the Confederate flag used by the Confederate States of America during the 1860s civil war. But I’ve only seen the former referred to as “the Confederacy” in old antebellum speeches and court cases, even then they may have said confederation, I can’t remember.)

Fun fact: the CSA’s own constitution’s preamble reads reads:

We, the people of the Confederate States, each State acting in its sovereign and independent character, in order to form a permanent federal government, establish justice, insure domestic tranquillity, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity — invoking the favor and guidance of Almighty God — do ordain and establish this Constitution for the Confederate States of America.

Did you catch that?

form a permanent federal government

FEDERAL.

Also PERMANENT

“No seceding!

This time.”

“No Takebacks!”

I’m getting some serious deja vu from Honey Badger, District of Columbia’s latest thread about Mitt Romney running for president as a Democrat.

You only say that because of this thread:

https://boards.straightdope.com /t/should-mitt-romney-run-as-a-democrat/982353

I knew what you meant, but just in case for anyone else reading along.

Oh no, I actually wasn’t sure if there was a prior thread or not - I honestly half thought it might be Deja Vu. I figured posting here would clarify things, though

It’s a funny way to call Democrats a right-wing party. I agree the Democratic platform is closer to center-right than truly left wing, but that doesn’t mean a less extreme member of the extreme right party can get away with being center right.

Well then, no harm, no foul. And at least you now know you’re not in the Matrix (or are you???) or slowly losing your mind (OR ARE YOU???). Bwahahah.

Seriously, it was several threads around that time from that poster that prompted me to throw an ignore, so it came to mind quickly.

I’m a little concerned about wolfpup in the WGA strike thread.

Good grief, wolfpup isn’t a troll. He’s wrong in that thread and you don’t agree with him, but he’s not trying to piss people off.

Yeah. I thought he was just stubborn with a side of having a personal issue with union actions. But the ChatGPT stuff, followed by the snarky attitude he’s started taking really does seem like trolling. He’s actually attacking posters for being “emotionally invested” in the argument–the one he started with being extremely emotional. The one he got so emotional that he had to share a childhood trauma to try and win an Internet argument.

It sucks, because I would like to follow the thread, but we always have these types of Dopers who take a contrarian position, refuse to listen, and just make the thread about them. At least everyone else moved off to the new thread about what strike actions are legitimate.

I would have agreed up until the ChatGPT stuff. And then his most recent post where he attacks his opponents for being too emotionally invested. That’s a classic troll maneuver.

I don’t think he deliberately set out to troll. But I do think he’s so angry and wanting to “win” that he’s starting to act like an ass about it. It’s a pattern I’ve noticed, particularly when people seem to run out of arguments.

It’s a stupid argument and he’s being an ass. That isn’t trolling.

For the record on HB’s Romney thread, I flagged it as a duplicate of his own thread from 5 months prior, Aspenglow combined them with a strongly worded “one is enough” comment directed at HB.

Have to agree. I’m not even sure to what degree he’s being an ass as opposed to just stubbornly dogmatic. Which I guess might be a tomato/tahmato argument . I mean he was pissing me off just a little bit, but I really don’t think he meant to :grinning:. He just doesn’t get it.

Although Miller got his hands slapped gently in the thread, I think it is fair to say in the Pit that this is clearly a case of social class blindness + some lingering past resentment (which, hey - nobody feels good about having a brick thrown through their window). Wolfpup obviously thinks he is overall on the side of the angels here and finds it hard to comprehend why anyone would be up in arms over trivialities like sick leave. This just tells me this is unfortunate ignorance from a white-collar professional that hasn’t a clue how unionized workplaces actually function, not real malice.
