Confused.
WE gave a stern mod note to someone who wished death on Trump, quoting a different rule about wishing harm.
So, can you wish harm on a group of people, even in the Pit, or not?

Not even in the same ballpark here.
In one instance, a person is wishing harm on a specific person.
In another instance, a poster said they’d be willing in principle to harm unspecified people in a certain circumstance.
Compare the following statements:
“I wish celebrity X would die already.”
“If a burglar was breaking into my house, I’d be willing to shoot them to protect my property.”
I really hope you can see the difference.
Also, you were correct that “wishing harm on a particular person” and “advocating illegal activity” are different rules. It doesn’t look like TOWP violated either.
TOWP is still a shitbag though. No, that’s too mild. They are a monster willing to kill kids to prove a point.

I feel much more comfortable diagnosing someone with trolling than with autism because, you know, I am not a doctor.
Granted. And even if either of us were a trained psychiatrist, we couldn’t make a good diagnosis over a message board. But the other key difference is that autism isn’t against the rules here.
New poster in the “Is it just me or is President Biden really good at the job?” thread will be outta here, I predict, by Thursday. Showing off his knowledge about the invasion on Ukraine. Sure, more ham-fisted moron than some Demon Tree-like troll, I guess, but still not long of these digs.
The Wagnerian Rhinemaiden username is pinging my white-supremacist meter a bit, too.
Speaking as an opera buff who loves the Ring cycle and Wagnerian opera in general, while recognizing the major character flaws of Wagner as an individual, I think it’s pretty depressing how he’s been co-opted as a culture marker for some of the smelliest racists around.
Silver lining, though, sez that it’s probably only a matter of time before the Met stages a Ring cycle with all nonwhite lead singers, and as added bonus we get to see all the whitewinger heads go splody with outrage. #RyanSpeedoGreenWotan
He has a point though, the Ukraine war didn’t happen when trump was president.
And neither did the global financial crash, or WWII (or indeed WWI).
In fact the more i think about it, the better trump is sounding - i can’t think why it
never occurred to me before.
Of course i’m bloody joking.
Oooh…I didn’t realize you could do really tiny text that way. Another positive thing that wouldn’t have been achieved without Trump!

When smelly racists use Wagner as a culture marker, that’s not co-opting. That’s just them identifying one of their own and celebrating who he was as a person alongside what he created as an artist.
Which Wagnerian Rhinemaiden they chose for their username pinged my white-supremacist meter more than a bit.
Insert link to the infamous Faulty Towers bit with the Major here.
Yeah, you might have to actually insert it, for me to get it. What association does that username have with white supremacists that Wellgunde or Floßhilde wouldn’t? For that matter, I haven’t had much luck googling for a link between white supremacists and Rheintöchter at all.
Yeah, you might have to actually insert it, for me to get it.
Rivalled only by Dad's Army as Britain's most-loved sitcom, Fawlty Towers seems an unlikely candidate to merit comparison with the movies of Quentin Tarantin...
I’m going to spell it out - the username includes the racist slur “wog” as a part of it.
I don’t personally think it’s a smoking gun, but that might be because the two phonemes aren’t pronounced anywhere near the same to me: /wɒɡ/ vs. /voːk/. But usernames are a text medium, I suppose, not a verbal one.
I dunno, feels like a stretch to me, especially since the fellow’s profile suggests that his IRL name implies that he’s a German who maybe lives in Germany, and thus less likely to have adopted slurs from the Commonwealth for day-to-day use.
@crowmanyclouds, does @MrDibble’s explanation resonate with your intent?
It’s not like I haven’t been spectacularly wrong in the past though, of course.

That’s a Swedish surname not a German one.
But he said “all this shit going on in far away Europe” which doesn’t strike me as a very European thing to say (neither is “ain’t”, IME)
As I said,
It’s not like I haven’t been spectacularly wrong in the past though, of course.
Note that “Wog” as a slur is characteristically British, not American, which again would speak against it being intentional.

Maybe he’s a Scientologist.

Right down to not thinking it’s a smoking gun.
I didn’t have @SCAdian down as an absolute racist shitbag or known Lost Cause apologist, yet there they are, trolling the Confederate flag streamer thread with feigned amazement that anyone might still hate the Confederacy and all it stood for today, with bonus “it was about loyalty to your state” recycled KKK pap.
And yes, posting that in that thread was definitely trolling, even in this forum.
