Trolls R Us Resurrections

I was originally suspicious, but the story was too lame to be a real attempt to troll us. But maybe. In the end, who cares. It’s stupid either way.

It didn’t say that at first.

I thought that might be the case, but at least now there is no ambiguity,

I also get the impression that aside from any problems with their posting (and those problems do seem to be worthy of noting), they aren’t trying to be deceptive about being a returning poster or about who they were.

I was just sayin’

My bad.

Your bad bad bad?

So, looking at their “old” account, it wreaks of the sock drawer in its own right. Several years old, sure, but very infrequent posting history, and half of their (limited) posts seem to be on topics they started (many of which appear to have been locked, for what I can only assume are very good reasons–not interested enough to open them up).

Well, I was bored waiting on an appointment. So I looked. The poster Ponders a bunch.

Needed homework help.

Asks big questions and doesn’t engage.

I’m done with this poster.
:expressionless:They don’t wanna be my friend. So there!

In general, I’d say that if you’re unsure, go ahead and report it. Worst case scenario, we look at the report and go “Nah, that’s totally legit”, and there’s no harm done. More likely, our response is “Hm, that is suspicious, but not enough evidence yet, we’ll keep an eye on that poster”. And occasionally, we’re able to find enough evidence to act. But it’s tough to catch them if we don’t have an idea to look in the first place, and we don’t read every thread, and even if we did, we might not notice something a poster noticed.

I chortled. A bit.

Y’all so funny.

I’m starting to think a poster named Amber who claims to be 13 is actually using AI to generate her posts. And that her most recent thread asking about using ChatGPT to make forum software is a tell.

If you keep these AI bots running too long, they get a lot less coherent, as seen in this video (full version in the description).

I had the same thought, but I didn’t realize they were making weird 13 year old girl claims elsewhere.

That was just a way to obliquely reference her name. I don’t know if she’s actually ever claimed to be 13, but that’s what that sort of name implies to me.

I phrased it poorly.

They claimed to be 15 in 2020, so 18 now.

Their other threads don’t strike me as particularly AI-driven, or even particularly trollish.

I’m nervous about any poster with Amber in their ID

It puts me in a state of alert.

So I…

… Heard.

…he said wryly in glee.

That poster has been posting incoherent stuff for longer than the current AI text generators have existed. She comes by her incoherence naturally.

Is there a first model on the loose?
