I’m getting trolling vibes from T J Eckleburg. Recently started a thread in Factual Questions about Emperor Menelik. Posting history looks suspect. Not close to any red lines, so apparently cautious if a troll.
posts it would be awesome to have Woody Allen on SNL.
Very possible–but that thread is actually based on a rumor that’s showing up in other places. If it’s a troll, it’s a troll who’s done their homework.
With a username like that, I get the vibe of an 1800s robber baron who just emerged from a steampunk cryogenic chamber.
Ah… I see there is also a manga character with that name (probably in reference to The Great Gatsby) and an Australian musician/theater director with that name as well (though that is a stage name admitted to have come from the character). So I guess it’s a popular name to borrow.
Picking a screen name that’s just some random fictional character? Lazy is what that is.
I think the proper way is to hang out a bit on the Dope and then hold a poll for a username. Yes, that’s the ticket.
That’s the guy who shit all over the “Visiting LA” thread.
I thought you were supposed to combine the name of your first pet with the name of the street you grew up on.
Or was that how to pick a porn name?
Potato, po-tah-to.
It’s your stripper name.
Not the same.
Porn actors get paid.
How is your cat Atama doing? BTW.
I see it sometimes called how to pick a stripper name but I usually hear it as porn name, and it works either way.
Funny enough, Atama was my high school nickname. (Seriously.) That’s where that came from.
My porn/stripper name would be Willy Normandy which actually sounds like a pretty good one.
Mine is Lucky McCollough
Gangster enough?
Saying ORD when they mean Chicago in general, etc., would be annoying. I’d assume he meant that the best restaurant was actually in the airport. Now I might very well say that I flew into JAX and drove over to the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge, which I admit is probably annoying too, but at least I mean the airport when I use the acronym (and you might catch me saying that I flew into LAX and spent the week (meaning that I spend a week within driving distance of the airport), which is probably obnoxiously American-centric. Sorry.
One company where I worked used the airport codes to identify our offices in those cities.
I can believe that. It’s a form of toponym - to get to that office, you need to fly to that airport, so the airport stands in for the office.
CLE for Cleveland, or ATL for Atlanta, isn’t too bad… but most folks wouldn’t know what ORD is. If you didn’t know that specific fact, and someone asked you to guess O’Hare’s airport code, you’d probably guess either CHI or OHA. ORD sounds like it should be Orlando.
Yeah, there’s a lot of randomness in the system. At least Chicago is a big city so some folks have learned that one. Unless you’re a local, you’ll have no clue about AVP
The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton airport is technically in the small town of Avoca, so AVP is AVoca, Pennsylvania (and locals call it “Avoca” or did 30 years ago, anyway)
