May be worth a separate thread, but one way or another it was CLEAR to me that he isn’t the same person, at all, even if he has the “same” body (vs. a hacker or opportunist). I too had a friend go from pretty liberal to extreme right wing in a 4 year window when I was out of town for grad school. At the time (when I unwittingly let him become my roommate) it was pretty frightening, esp. when the anger came out of nowhere. Last year I found out what the precipitating event was: a Muslim drunk driver killed his fiance’ (he was driving and was lightly injured). No excuse to completely eschew your former worldview just because of one single incident of course.
Also, and I know this will be shocking to most of us, sometimes people drink and use drugs, then make message board posts.
I could drink all the booze and smoke all the weed in the world, but I’d never post such a thing. Drugs don’t alter your personality this way. (ok, maybe with the exception of the drug called Trump …)

Yeah, I lost a good friend to MAGA/Trumpism over the past few years, as well. I met him on Ebay, of all places; he was a skilled painter of gaming miniatures, and after buying a few of his minis, I wound up contracting to have him do custom paintjobs for minis for my D&D characters. Over the course of 20 years, we became friends, and would talk, at length, over Facebook Messenger, about life, the universe, and everything.
He’s had a ton of health issues, and has been living a hand-to-mouth existence for years, with his elderly mother living with him. But, about a year or two ago, something snapped, and what he was posting on Facebook was no longer photos of the minis he’d painted, but instead, reposting of MAGA memes. I have no doubt that the Trumpist talking points, about blaming “the other” for his difficult financial and health situation, resonated with him, and he fell down the rabbit hole entirely.
I tried, at one point, maybe a year ago, to have a conversation with him, but all he wanted to talk about was how Democrats are enabling gay men to groom teenagers, and about how transgenderism is a moral crisis (and that Democrats are pushing for transgender surgery on young kids). He hasn’t reached out to me since, and I have to assume that he considers me part of the enemy. 
While all pharmaceutical treatments have side effects, racism is not a known side effect of any Sanofi medication.
As for the hacking theory, it’s possible. Dell had a massive security breach in May and just days ago AT&T was hacked. Thats potentially a lot of passwords released on the web.
The odds of someone getting that data and using it to troll this board specifically is extremely low, but who the fuck knows.

The mean drunk syndrome is a well known example.
I’ve been around heavy drinkers my whole life. Being the only sober person in the room I’ve seen things. Happy hour hits(whatever time that is determined to be) and tongues start wagging. The volume increases and opinions get more important for the drinker to express.
My youngest daughter is involved with a group of Maganuts. Her boyfriend foams at the mouth about it.
Of course I would never expel her from her home here I cannot, in good conscience, allow that talk in my house and I told her as much.
It caused a riff with us that has taken a couple of years to work out a way to co-exist.
Of course I love her, miss her and want her back in my life.
Trumpism has divided us, and I’ll never forgive him for that. What ever else he does, in my life, that is the worst.

I genuinely felt sorry for him when I saw one particular picture of the SS getting him off the stage. The defiant look came off his face and he looked truly fearful and in pain.
