I’d like to point to one of his topics from 2012 “I am sick of the Browns”. Of course that was about football, he has apparently redirected his ire.
I would wonder about a hacked account, too. The writing style is totally different. His previous posts were almost all short, succinct and in Cafe Society - a lot about music. By contrast, that new thread is long, sprawling, and political in Great Debates.
So, one might say, their opinions have gotten darker?
From that rant:
His post reads as “scientific racism” to me.
Or just regular racism. Either way, fuck that guy.
I’m going to agree it’s repulsive and has no place in GD. I’ll also agree, reluctantly, that absent a recent posting history (since it’s a zombied account, real or hacked) there isn’t a pattern of offense that would lead to more aggressive moderation by @What_Exit other than what has been done so far.
I’d probably suggest a compromise until/unless it’s moved to the Pit - hide it under a dropdown with label of “Racially Profiled Rant” so that anyone who DOES stumble into it has fair warning that it’s a fairly unhinged and biased rant rather than anything worthy of remaining in the “clear” for GD.
I tend to think the phrase “black washed” in the title covers that and that the thread is locked.
Should the rest of us be worried that our accounts ALSO got hacked? Weird for a random drive-by hacker to just focus on the account of one departed Doper (yeah maybe he got lucky guessing the password) when it presumably would have been easier to just make a new account than to spend 20 minutes guessing “hummingbird”, no…“rutabaga”, no…“semprini”-ah there we go!
[waiting for WE’s next post before I add to this]
No idea honestly. I don’t think Discourse has a known vulnerability but it is possible that vB might have 10 years ago or something like that. But it does happen occasionally on other sites.
Only other possibility is that the cookie was on an old computer that the Doper originally owned and then sold, the new owner noticed the cookie and logged in here to spew his special brand of drivel.
Agreed. But I lean towards 10 years is a long time and the world has again been crazy for the last 8 years.
I don’t think that it’d be possible for a login cookie from the vBulletin days to have survived the transition to Discourse.
Could be a situation with reused passwords, and a leak from somewhere else.
Black culture at its core is about being bad.
I mean, I remember even back in the 1980s possibly the most famous Black man in the world declaring “I’m bad, I’m bad, shamone. You know I’m bad, I’m bad. You know it.”
Via this discussion and one with the OP of said thread, I have cornfielded the thread.
Good, that thread had no use here and was a stain to the board.
Were you able to determine if the account was hijacked or it’s the same person from years ago?
No way for me to tell for sure, but my best guess is same person.
Wow, that’s a really scary (and sad) deterioration, if true.
In ten years the very thin veneer of decency has been ripped away, deemed no longer necessary because certain political and social leaders seem to be succeeding without it. “Things you just don’t say in mixed company” has gone the way of the dodo.
That is one scenario, another one is being radicalized by a combination of events.
I’ll suggest a divorce, some job issues, especially during Covid and listening/reading right-wing pundits that give you someone to blame for your problems.
I lost my oldest friend to Covid, but what I really lost him to was right-wing pundits that convinced this gullible guy that Covid was overblown and that somehow the vaccines were bad. He had also become very anti-Democrat along the way and he use to be to my left when I was still a Republican way back when.
