Trolls R Us Resurrections

If they do that, they’re clearly violating board rules and would be modded, perhaps banned.

Right now, to me their most glaring problem is the way they write. No space between paragraphs, sometimes not even a space between words. They may not be very good at writing or may not have English as a primary language, or have another issue. Or maybe lazy, who knows. Though someone who goes through the trouble to type all of that probably isn’t lazy. It’s just hard for me to read; it literally gives me a headache.

Agreed, thus my crack about “not well organized”.

I absolutely think they bear watching, for multiple reasons, but don’t have a 100% overlap with our normal trock patterns. But plenty of worrying behaviors to be sure.

Some people lurk for months or even years before creating an account. So I don’t think being able to find the Pit and knowing what sort of thing goes there is an automatic indicator. Even reading the rules thoroughly while signing up will give a pretty good idea.

The combination of the language used and the punctuation strikes me as odd, though. (The paragraphing may be someone unused to a computer; there are clearly paragraphs, just no spaces between them – though if that’s it, where are the indents at the start of paragraphs?)

I’m also rather put off by the “savage lust”, especially as it’s applied to foreigners.

Not to mention, the last thing we want is to be hostile to people who are careful to try to follow the rules.

Just as a matter of curiosity, I took bits of their Pit OP and did Google searches to see if they were copied and pasted from somewhere, and/or were part of some spam screed they are putting out in places (which is behavior I’ve seen before). I found nothing. So I think this was truly composed by them.

How fortunate, then, that they didn’t.

I don’t see the relevance of an imagined set of events that there is nothing to indicate would happen.

I’m thinking of a recently banned poster who started asking for feedback on their ‘performance’ and then tried to drum up support/clicks on said performance. Not that that was the only reason they were and should have been banned! Also, we’ve had at least one “ancient alien astronaut” poster that kept linking to specific sites, also apparently in an effort to drive traffic that way.

It wasn’t a huge concern, but it’s a non-zero concern. And I was making the point that it didn’t look like our normal troll or trock pattern, but could be something else, since it DID match the low read time, low participation pattern.

So basically, I figured they’re someone to watch, but not a serious concern unless something changed.

This is a concern I don’t much share. Perhaps it is like first responders compared to ordinary citizens, or military vs. civilians, but I am content to leave the troll-spotting to others. I just hope not to drive away new posters who might come across as odd at first, until they get their feet.

Sometimes I get a feeling like I’m watching Donald Sutherland at the end of Invasion of the Body Snatchers – “Eeeee! (Different! Not one of us!)” (Not from you particularly, just the troll-spotting mindset.) Perhaps I should stop reading this thread, so my knickers will untwist of their own accord.

Eh, if it adds to your aggravation, then don’t follow, but otherwise it is fine to keep us honest. Which to be fair, @Atamasama did when it came to the name, and we’re just at the skeptical, not the accusatory phase of hunting.

But right now, looks like blow-in, since they visited us on just the one day to create the (admittedly slightly inflamatory) topic and post once about Harris.

Then how will we know when you guys decide to call us trolls?

You guys? You’re, one of us, oooooonnneeee oooooffff uuuuuusssss…

Seriously though, I just wanted @Roderick_Femm to not increase their own stress - or as they said, untwist their knickers. Shit is far too stressful right now, why make oneself crazy over the low-stakes of if some new poster is a troll or not, or if we’re being (very possibly!) excessively suspicious.

Heck, my Primary Care Physician suggested a supplement to try to mitigate my stress, depression and anxiety, and I’ve actually tried recently (not super successfully) to reduce my posting in Pit and adversarial P&E threads, so I can sympathize.

Oh, if we do call you trolls, you’ll know because my breasts will be heaving and moist with perspiration.

WTF?

[How/why that called to mind a Daryl Hannah line from (Steve Martin) Roxanne is a totally separate and unrelated matter]

Laugh, and the world laughs with you. Sneeze, and it’s goodbye Seattle.

vasantnelson, come.on down! He joined less than 10 minutes ago to zombie a thread about nudist resorts from 2009 by complaining about how hard it is for Nice Guys to get dates.

You did it again. A live link from here to FQ. A public accusation of trolling in a non-Pit thread.

Ack. Self-reporting myself.

Oops. And there he goes in the “Trump: In 4 years…” thread. Definitely on the mod radar now.

Yeah, I spotted them earlier and almost posted here about it. Probably shouldn’t have replied but I doubt it would have made a difference.

You should report yourself to the Department of Redundancy Department.

Yeah. Dude is an established user’s sock. Predates Trump’s ride down the escalator, so I wonder what his purpose was those first few months?

EDIT: Oh – the 2008 “Why no Wright Brothers movie?” thread. Didn’t post into another thread until December of last year.

I think that the “read time” statistic only applies to time since the transition to Discourse, so he could have read plenty under vBulletin.
