Said poster was, AFAICT, actually replying to/challenging the Demonic Tree, who was talking about wanting to see funding for viral “gain-of-function” research eliminated.
It seemed like a veer in a not so good direction, especially given the next comment by that poster.
It took me a moment to grok that.

Nobody likes being criticized. But when it does happen, some people like to play Galileo (the pop culture version, not the real one who was actually a bit of a scold/asshole) like they’re misunderstood geniuses or something.
I’d rather help the kid learn than write him off as some kook not worth the effort. That’s part of proper community building - not just tossing ‘undesirables’ out because you just can’t be bothered.
But he says he’s not a kid, he has a whole department of physicists and engineers working with him.
