Trolls R Us Resurrections

It was hidden by system rather that cornfielded by a Mod, that almost never happens. Thus the weirdness.

BTW: Now cornfielded.

Yeah, Discourse in general is designed to work without moderators. One of the features of that is that, if a thread or post gets too many flags, it automatically deals with it in some way. That thread, predictably, got many flags very quickly, and so it got “delisted”: It still exists, it just didn’t show up in the forum listing.

Now if we could just get Discourse to un-bump threads that get bumped by spammers, after the spam is removed.

There is a way to do it manually at least:

Click the Wrench :wrench:, Click Reset Bump Date. (The Anchor :anchor:)

I documented it in January of 2023, but it is buried in a large post under
Bumped threads from tagging

In the P&E thread “How’s Carney Doing, Canada?” poster Uzi is now doing a decent imitation of trolling. Has been for about 2 weeks now.

I ( / we?) get that he’s a one-trick RW pony, a Canadian quasi-MAGA. But now it’s devolved into the tiresome tit for tat of “You’re not answering my questions. No, you’re not answering my questions.”

It’s not within the classical definition of “trolling” but it’s certainly well into “unhelpful poster behavior”.

Sealioning troll?

Good point. It’s more of a sealion with a minor backbeat of JAQ than a troll. The effect is vexatious nevertheless.

The thread is actually interesting on a topic that interests me and most of our Canadians. But right now it’s the “Righteous Uzi vs the CanaDopers” thread. A darn shame.

Just checked that thread out.

Wow, yeah. “I want to say something indefensible but don’t want to look like a sociopath cheering for starving children, so I’ll distract and deflect”.

It’s the standard right-wing take: start from the principle “Person X is bad, everything X does is bad for the country, and everything X says is a lie” and then rearrange reality into a Klein bottle to pretend it supports the conclusion they began with.

And then respond with “no u” when this is pointed out.

Troll or not, Uzi is a True Patriot™ in the fine tradition of the Jan 6 insurrectionists. He firmly believes three things: (1) everything the Liberal Party does is wrong, and whoever the leader is at any given time is an ass who hates Canada, (2) the correct thing for Canada to do in all circumstances is exactly what Trump says, and (3) Alberta should secede from Canada and join the US.

Everything Uzi posts should be interpreted in light of these core beliefs, and then it all makes perfect sense. Of course, if you don’t hold those beliefs, you must be a baby-eating woke liberal who’d rather support woke liberal things like same-sex marriage instead of wallowing in subservience to the brilliant genius of Donald Trump.

To be clear, I’m happy to have debates with those who hold differing political views, but not with delusional assholes who appear to have arrived from another planet.

Last week I gave some clown in a pick up with ‘Alberta 51st state’ and ‘Trump’ stickers two middle fingers. He waved for me to come talk to him. I told him I had nothing more to say to traitors like him, which he of course thought was hilarious.

I did briefly wonder if it was UZI.

Goofs with stupid user names like ‘UZI’ is why I started using my cat’s name online.

While I doubt it in this particular case, it is an actual name used by actual people - that’s how the gun got its name. One of my bosses earlier in my life was a more different Israeli named Uzi.

Alberta has always had these assholes. They are more empowered recently and less shy, but there has always been some of them. They are rediculous clowns with nothing real to contribute. They are not worth engaging.

I did not know it was an actual name. I just assumed tough guy posturing. Like a 10 year old.

The poster here? Yeah, like 90% sure that’s some immature posturing from a major wanker and not his actual name.

ETA: Full disclosure, I am not a Bob, nor am I especially against Bobs, despite my handle.

Huh. Me neither.

Bob’s my Uncle. Like…really.

I have an actual uncle named Bob too. I bet that’s pretty common.

And I am neither Eddy, Teddy, nor Freddy, though I did observe them attempting to pass the brain cell amongst themselves from time to time. Little did they realize that wee black Sally had batted it under the stove.

But are you great?

Keeping up with the confessions, despite the meme, I am not a dog. I am, however a cat.

Or am I?
