I see the troll in the Charlie Kirk thread is calling out people (me) who haven’t responded to him in days. Smells like desperation.
Also, pretty sure being a terfphobe would be a good thing…

At this point he’s basically repeatedly shitting his own pants in hopes of attention. I’ve seen more rational toddlers.
Sorry. It is a little bit too soon to try to exploit a tragedy for some political point scoring.
Way too vague to find. Can you name the specific troll and the specific thread?
Yeah that one got me scratching my head… if anything the SDMB culture takes an unsympathetic view of TERF.
I will assume they just got carried away on a roll about “libs sticking -phobe at the end of everything”.
The same troll we’ve been talking about in this thread since Sept 27. He’s in several Kirk threads - look at whichever one pops up first.
The last several days, I think he’s just been in the Pit one. And occasionally here.
In fact, I think he posted just once in the non-Pit one, got no bites, and relocated permanently.
When folks confine themselves to the pit and do nothing except for sneer at everyone else, I’d be fine sending them to somewhere where they’ll be happier. Even if his behavior doesn’t break Pit rules, he doesn’t add anything interesting to the board, doesn’t make the board a better place.
That, IMO, should be the rule for everyone: do you bring more of value to the board than you enshittify the board? If you can’t meet that bar, byebye.
If this poster was a new poster, they would be gone already. This one has been around 25 years I think. He appears to be lashing back (way too much in my opinion) after being attacked. @Miller keeps dismissing the flags against him and this is not being discussed in the modloop.
If people would stopped feeding him, he would stop posting this crap. But he really isn’t violating our rules.
I’m personally finding the flags annoying as most people know by now, Miller is not going to give him a warning. But that me. My advice is don’t read, don’t engage if he’s annoying you, I know I’m not.
I will say, I’ve never seen anyone rack up this many ignores this quickly.
That’s an extremely subjective view, based on what people think is value vs. what people think is shit. You seem to think that those are universally agreed upon, but I guarantee you they are not. Any decision attempted to be based on that criterion would almost certainly raise more trouble than it settled.
eta: rules based on behavior are at least defensible.
Its just annoying that in this day of late-stage Internetting, people still think that it’s possible to engage with a troll without feeding it. He isn’t even being particularly clever and we still have posters jumping to tell him that he’s lame, as if trolls care about the flavor of indignant responses they provoke.
Trolling in the pit is still a warnable/suspendable/bannable offense, is it not? Yes, I am well aware of the caveat in the final sentence here:
No trolling
By trolling, we mean posting of inflammatory comments solely to get a rise out of people. If we feel your primary goal as a poster is to make people mad, you’ll quickly find yourself on the road to banning. On the flip side, the fact that a poster consistently makes you mad doesn’t automatically make them a troll.
Again 25 years of posting, a few weeks of pissing people off in a pit thread, doesn’t seem to meet the criteria.
As I said earlier, if this was a new poster, they and their posts would be in the cornfield.
How do these two things jibe?
You took them out of context. That is why.
If a brand new poster shows up just to troll/insult, even in the pit. They’re goned.
Uh-, pardon my french, -doy.
I think nothing of the sort. I think it’s subjective, and I think that I’m on this board because the vibe is subjectively one I like. If I thought the mods had a dumb take and thought Pedro was a fine upstanding citizen and that I was a useless snotball, I’d head on out.
Why not a long-term poster who is so very clearly doing the exact same thing?
And the context is all right there.
Why not the obsessive posting rule that earned DrDeth a warning? Kirk is the only thing Pedro is posting about.
I think Miller almost always quite tolerant, and needs to be to manage the BBQ Pit. Note, this is NOT a complaint. The line between posting solely to get a reaction (trolling) and joyful glee at the consternation of your perceived enemies (traditional Pit fare) would be incredibly hard for me to manage, and that’s leaving out any personal like or dislike of a poster.
Miller almost always on the side of limited intervention, and if a new or old poster keeps it ONLY in the Pit, then it’s much harder.
A lot of the new troll (non-trock) posters are blowing up multiple threads in multiple forums, and run afoul of the less forgiving forum rules. Pedro, probably for good reason, is keeping it in the Pit - where he benefits, exactly like the rest of us from much more relaxed moderation.
Doesn’t mean I agree with what he says, but since I’m on the record as being part of the pro-Pit faction, it means I support his right to be a mean and vengeful prick sometimes. I am the same.
Now, as to his being a single issue poster, or if he continues to post language that indicates that they ARE only trolling for “lib tears”, I think that eventually the evidence will become overwhelming.
Seriously though, based on prior posting history, if everyone ignored them for a few weeks, they’d probably get bored and leave for a few weeks/months until the next time.
If the best thing we can say in someone’s defense is that soon they’ll go away on their own, I’m just saying maybe we should consider giving them a boost.
