Trolls R Us Resurrections

I will report this bit of discussion to add that poster to the Mods’ list of posters to look askance at.

Back in my youth when I was teaching myself programming, I wrote a FORTRAN program to generate “computer poetry”. It consisted of a bunch of sentence templates and a vocabulary of words tagged as nouns, verbs, adjectives, etc. It used a pseudo-random number generator to randomly pick a sentence template and randomly populate it with the appropriate parts of speech. The result was syntactically correct gibberish that looked very much like this guy’s posts. Actually it was better, because some of it actually was rather poetic and evocative, whereas this guy’s posts are just annoyingly stupid, which might well be the intent. Either that or he was stoned out of his mind when posting.

I have my eye on them from the start, but so far no issues. The name alone is a minor flag.

They’ve now attacked @Aspenglow over a moderating post in the current MMP.

This one seems destined to burn brightly, albeit briefly. They might not be a sock, just somebody none too bright used to the cruder parts of the 'net. Either way, not shaping up to be an asset to the team.

The sock that burns twice as bright reeks twice as bad.

Overnight we have a new suspicious candidate. Newbie aer has posted “concern” that a young adult woman is wearing jeans with a smidgen of non-sexy underwear hanging out. And is aghast at the thought that their own pre-teen daughter might do the same some day.

So far everyone, including me, is playing nice. But this reminds me of so many attention whore “My life is a soap opera; please advise me” threads.

So far the OP is a very mild and not really objectionable version of that. But I have my concerns too.

This search should return the relevant thread without making a backlink from there to here. Search results for ‘@aer before:2025-11-12 Parents’ - Straight Dope Message Board.

Yep, strange. I almost hope it is a troll, or else I will be feeling sorry for his(?) daughter.

On the other hand, I think it must be very tough to be a father of a teenage daughter. I remember what my sister was getting up to at age 14, and that was over 60 years ago.

Assuming it’s all sincere, it’s unclear to me whether the OP is Mom or Dad.

I’m leaning slightly towards Dad, but it could be a very sheltered prudish (or older) Mom who has little / no contact with other young adult women and their ideas of current fashions and mores.

Mostly I find the whole thing to be implausibly tone deaf (and internet unaware) for anyone who’s been a parent since the early 2010s.

Reads like a Mother to me, not a Dad.
Also, that profile is already being watched thanks to that first OP.

They stepped up their trolling and are now in the cornfield.

Adios, MF!

That was quick work on all y’alls’ part. Congrats.

Yeah, it was odd, so Im happy to see that it was a troll rather than a real parent.

I almost mentioned them last night, but I forgot to hit Reply. I was happy no one really seemed to be taking them seriously or getting upset.
