“I’m not actually arguing this, but what if I were” seems to be what he’s on about in that thread, after being backed into some kind of corner. His problem is that he’s probably a reasonable person who, for some reason, feels like he has to stay a Republican and defend their indefensible, treasonous actions.
It’s a tough spot to be in, unless you just say, hey, I’m no longer going to associate with treasonous motherfuckers, even if that used to be my party. (To be clear, they were never my party)
It took me a while to throw off the self-appointed Republican tag. I campaigned for Reagan. I pictured myself as part of the party of Roosevelt, Lincoln, Ike and Nelson Rockefeller. But by the time of Cheney puppeteering Shrub, I had to acknowledge the Republican Party had left me behind and wasn’t heading back to middle any time soon. Also I was a serious Hawk, Cheney and his Neo-Cons proved this out as not something I could still be.
That and being a Green, I could no longer reconcile to the Republican leadership. I was officially no longer a Repub by 2008, but probably effectively an independent by 1996.
I still don’t consider myself a Dem, but voting for John McCain in the 2008 primary was the last time I voted for a Republican and that year I campaigned (lightly) for Obama as a Vet for Obama.
Go to your own profile, go to Preferences, and look for “Users”. There is an “ignored” option, you have to put in the name (and it will start to suggest names as you type so you don’t always have to write the whole name) and a duration. I always make it permanent.
I’ve been considering this. Outside a few individuals who are long time low-content individuals, I normally go for more frequent 1 month ignores. Often I’ll find an individual who has gotten out of control on a single subject or thread (with some bleed through to related threads of course) and 30 days gives them enough time to 1) calm down 2) move on 3) flame out into full trollishness and get a ban.
Admittedly, that’s for individuals that make good candidates for this thread, which are most frequently trolls and trocks. I have several long term posters on ignore, such as the one who resembles the insignia of chaos…
I’ve had a couple that I’ve put on ignore for a day or so, just because I could tell I was getting a bit riled up, and I’d be better able to deal with them in a somewhat calmer state.
But there are some poster who have never contributed anything of value to the board, and I don’t see why they should negatively affect my enjoyment of those posters who do have useful things to say.
A couple of people I put on ignore, I took off ignore after they changed. It happens. It’s rare, but it happens. Or they get banned and there’s no point anymore.
The only time so far that I’ve used temporary ignore (intentionally) is when it’s a single thread where the poster is pissing me off, and I want to be able to read it without feeling that “need” to reply even when you know it won’t help. I would much rather it be “ignore in this thread” feature.
Serious answer: Presuming that by “shit list” you mean “ignore list,” no. In fact (for the benefit of anyone who’s managed to not be aware of it), discussing the membership of your ignore list outside the Pit is verboten.
No, it’s not junior modding. But expressing an opinion about whether it’s junior modding would be junior modding. (I hereby suspend myself for 5 minutes.)
I was simply wondering, if the banned one was aware of dozens of bans, might behavior modification occur. I’m aware that not everyone would jump on the ban-ned wagon; certainly a lot of us prefer poking the target, and the target may even enjoy the pokes.
