I dipped a toe in those waters. IMHO, either flat-out troll or – worse – a very simple True Believer.
I’m not sure which is worse.
Bad as encountering such on the messageboard is, I have to deal with such people in my day to day life. Just hateful assertion after unsubstantiated accusation, all cribbed from the far right hate hive mind.
Ugh. I’m sorry. I’m glad, at least, that dogs play a central role in your life.
Personally, I find the latter easier to deal with because I have a tendency not to want to engage with them. It’s too easy to act as an intellectual bully and just bitch-slap them around.
I’m working on not doing that
The trolls tend to be more self-aware and more malicious. They’re harder for me to resist.
Process is begun, we’ll see what happens. I had noted his Quora presence as part of why I didn’t think he was Trock when he first appeared, but it also shows what type of poster he is. A Sealion among other issues.
He also appears to be extremely obsessive, trying to dominate the current thread he is posting in.
It’s a little hard sometimes, especially when it’s family.
My mother is a true believer, so I have kinda just avoided spending too much time around her. However, my father recently died, so I’ve been needing to be over there to help take care of things, and she inevitably starts bringing up some bullshit or other.
If she wasn’t a horrible typist, I’d suspect that she was our recently suspended troll friend.
I miss my brother and SIL for similar reasons. The two of them were my metaphorical batting cage for learning how not to swing at every pitch.
But … understanding what really matters in this life … my sincere condolences on your loss.
Brand new thread, about explaining the Pit to someone as if they’re an idiot.
The poster, Dunka, has been here 5 -HOURS- and created a whole 3 topics already.
I’m not nearly good as the pros, but I’m feeling my trock-senses going off.
Oh, I explicitly welcomed them as a sock there. I feel quite comfortable doing so.
I give a friendly welcome to new members, but that ain’t a new member.
He reads like JimB. Just imagine a after every question mark.
I don’t think he is JimB, but he does remind me of him.
Based on the timing listed, @Atamasama was calling them out at the time time I was posting my post here. Great minds think alike.
You know, I normally don’t bother posting in such threads because they almost always end up cornfielded, but you’ve encouraged me to do so. I’m pretty sure that’s an extra 4 hours in purgatory for me, but meh.
Uh oh
Not actually how it works. If someone is proved to be a troll or a sock, they’ll be banned. But no apology will be given to them if we don’t determine such even though some posters think otherwise.
I will give one strong recommendation. Stay out of the pit for a few weeks. This is a terrible way to start your time in a new place. This thread is an especially bad place to be.
Go enjoy the rest of the board.
Oh, for the record, I’m one of the Hall Monitors, I mean Moderators. That is what the little shield after my username indicates.
Wasn’t there one about a year ago who immediately showed up in this thread and went on a “prove I’m a sock, ban me or apologize” tirade? I can’t remember who we concluded they were socking for. The sarcastic “what a welcoming community” (from the other thread) sounds familiar too. I can’t find anything from last year - probably cornfielded. Maybe @What_Exit can search the cornfield for posts like that?
On a totally different troll note - cjackson who I mentioned a dozen posts of so back drew a warning from Miller on the thread in question.
And a very well deserved one. I hadn’t even caught the “call to arms” part.
I assumed the OP was mocking the “call to arms” that they quoted, and it was ill-conceived satire. But it was so opaque I’m not really sure.
Dunks is openly trolling now, so I reported.
Banned.
Almost certainly one of our Trocks, but absolutely a troll.
