4 hours of purgatory will be totally worth it. But all the troll-poking, as predicted has gone to the cornfield. Oh well. Still worth it.
Speaking of which, does everyone know that particular Twilight Zone episode had a sequel?

And TedBaimonte pulled a ban, oh frabjous day!
Honestly, Whack-a-Mole’s never really been on my trolldar, but he’s sealioning like an octopus in the ATMB thread about whether dehumanizing language should be acceptable.
That doesn’t seem to be sealioning. He’s making arguments against basically censoring a word.
I stopped using the word a fairly long time ago, but I somewhat sympathize with his position.
With the original actor’s (Bill Mumy of Lost in Space fame) actual daughter playing his daughter.
Wow, this reminds me of this recent xkcd
I know Mumy much better from Babylon 5.
Which of us is which in this scenario?
Honestly not sure. He had a larger role in Lost in Space, but Babylon 5 is 30 years more recent, and he was still an important character. Though, at this point, Babylon 5 is getting pretty old itself, so his most recent role in Lost in Space, even as just a cameo, may make that one more relevant.
As far as the twilight zone episode, I think that’s more of a cult classic. I hadn’t ever heard about it until people started talking about cornfields on this board.
It was one of the episodes redone for the movie though. It has had a sequel and I think the 80s Twilight Zone revival also touched on it. It is one of their most famous episodes.
Lost in Space, probably age dependent, if you can even vaguely remember the Beatles still being together, that is probably Bill Mumy’s signature role. If you’re younger, I can see it being B5.
And now playing the concern troll card.
“If we can’t run around screaming slurs wherever, whenever, and to whomever we want, then the bigots will win!”
I don’t think he’s a troll, his skull is just so thick that his head is just one big solid bone.
I had assumed he was the whacker. But perhaps he’s the mole?
He’s pursuing an argument. The fact that you don’t like his argument or the point he is trying to make doesn’t make him any of the terms you have used against him (pronoun assumed).
The argument that he is pursuing is so stupid that there are two possibilities.
K9bfriender seems to be giving him the benefit of the doubt.
Yes, disingenuously. Just because someone is making an argument doesn’t mean that they are making that argument in good faith.
Except that that’s not what I said, so you to assert it as a “fact” is not only presumptuous, but also entirely wrong. It’s not that I don’t like his argument or the point he is trying to make. It’s how he makes his argument by “asking questions” and how he passive aggressively asserts his points that’s very trollery.
There’s also:
Regarding Whack-a-Mole my view is actually closest to @Skywatcher. I don’t think he’s a troll, but, well, he reminds me of a certain class of anti-vaxxer / anti-masker. He just doesn’t want to be TOLD what to do. It’s more childish (a behavior class with many troll overlaps) than intentionally offensive.
While the motivation is ‘don’t tell me what to do’, smarter individuals then cloak the sentiment in intellectual dodges: Freedom, Intellectual Honesty, Free speech or other high-minded defenses, but it’s still a dodge for the underlying motivations.
Which is why they become so vehement (and trollish) when they defend themselves, because they’re obviously on the side of Good, with such high minded motivations after all.
So again, very possible they believe that their arguments and motivations are pure, but the underlying assumptions are mostly selfish IMHO, and are functionally trollish.
Yeah, I think I made my feelings clear and I vehemently disagree with what WaM is saying. But I don’t see it as trolling. I see it as excusing being a jerk, but it’s a legitimate (if completely wrong) argument to make.
I went a bit sour on Whack-a-Mole after his behaviour in the Simone Biles thread. Victim blaming is the kindest thing you could say.
