Trouble in Paradise (Mafia Game Thread)

If I switched my vote to Sario, I would create a tie, which I don’t want to do. Is anybody else thinking that?

I originally chose Sario pretty much at random. As the week went on, I started feeling that I had actually picked correctly. I certainly do not have any experience playing, but I have watched and tried to pick out town vs scum in a number of past games here on SDMB. Sario is currently my strongest scum read. Maybe it’s just his style, but he sure hasn’t done anything that I have seen to help out town. There are certainly others in that category, but he “smells” the worst to me. I really don’t understand why he hasn’t tried to make a case. If he somehow gets lynched (not going to happen unless we have some last minute vote changes), and he turns out to be town, I would have to start back up with the Prof.

We don’t know what the tiebreaker rules are yet. They could be anything from nobody gets lynched to both get lynched. The only way we will find out is if there is one. As long as it is a mystery, there is less of a chance that someone might try to force it.

I am seriously considering changing my vote to Sario, because as I have already acknowledged, although I still stand by what I said re. Prof P, I could be wrong, and if so that is bad for town. Whereas if we are wrong about our scum read on Sario, he’s not helping town much anyway, so no great loss if we mislynch him (i.e. I’m leaning back towards lunch the lurker).

Could Sario and the Prof. both be scum? I agree it seems unlikely given they voted for each other fairly early and without a great deal of evidence, which would be odd. So I’m starting to think it’s better for the game maybe if we lynch Sario. If he is revealed as scum, we can probably completely reassess Prof P. If he reveals as town, Prof P remains under serious suspicion. Whereas if we lynch Prof P and are wrong, we haven’t got much useful information and probably still want to lynch Sario next day anyway.

Absolutely. I don’t like the fact the voting is so close - it makes it too easy for a wolf to jump in just before end of day and create a tie, and if none of us townies is watching (I’ll be working at end of day so won’t be able to keep an eye on things down to the wire) this could result in no lynch when we have a couple of solid suspicions to go on.

I’m getting more townie towards you now you’ve started posting a bit more. If it was between you and Sario and I had voted for you, I’d change to him, no question. But I don’t know why you’re so confident he won’t get lynched? Lots of time yet for people to change votes.

Guys, based on the above we need to decide pretty much now which way we’re going to go. Despite the fact it may cast suspicion on me, based on recent posts including this one I’m going to switch, at least for now. “When the facts change, I change my mind.”

UNVOTE Prof. Pepperwinkle

If you agree, please consider changing your vote (especially if it’s currently for neither of the above) to create a solid majority one way or the other.

THE ABOVE IS INCORRECT.

Please excuse the shouting, but it’s really important. See rule 7 from the OP. In the event of a tie on day one, there will no lynch. On subsequent days, the moderator will choose one of the tied players at random and lynch them. I think we’re pretty much all agreed we don’t want a no lynch on day one, so let’s make sure there isn’t a tie.

It’s in the OP:

[QUOTE=Johnny Bravo]
7. In the event of a tie on Day 1, there will be no lynch. In the event of a tie on following Days, I will randomly choose a player from among those who are tied.

Ninja’ed! Should have previewed.

Dead Cat convinced me.

Unvote Astral Rejection
Vote Sario

I was already thinking of moving my vote to the leading candidate (which at the time was Prof. P) just to make a tie less likely. But you also convinced me that Sario is a better choice, my feelings about Astral and the Prof. notwithstanding.

Sorry folks,I completely missed that. I should have re-read the op. I thought I had seen something different. Was probably in the signup thread.

My count shows Sario 5, Prof 4 at the moment. Still close enough that someone could try to force the tie

Ok posted at the same time so it should be Sario 6, Prof 4

Johnny Bravo, can I just clarify that the day ends at noon EST, even though the US East Coast is still on EDT today (i.e. one hour ahead of EST)? So the day will end at 5pm GMT/UTC, which is 1pm EDT (current New York time), 12 noon EST?

To clarify still further, by my reckoning the end of day one will be in 8 hours 35 minutes after the time stamp of this post.

Agreed. I’d like it to be a bigger gap than that, but I know most of the US is asleep at the moment, so hopefully people will check in today and make their decision accordingly.

Check out post 249. He says day ends in 23 hours. I think you are one hour off. Looks like 7 hours 35 minutes from the time of your post.

Setting my alarm for 830am. Though no promises ill actually get up for it. Or read this thread. Or be unbrain dead enough to properly comment.

**You people are confusing the moderator with your distinctions between EST and EDT. The game ends when his clock says noon. That is happening in four hours and twenty minutes (hur hur hur).

Here is the last official vote count until EoD.

Unvote IRConfused
Vote Sario

Let’s widen that gap a bit. I’ve stated the evidence. IRConfused has responded, Sario hasn’t. That’s not proof, but it certainly moves the needle enough to move my vote.

Don’t worry, it’s only an issue for the first day - by the end of the first night, EDT will have ended and so should any possibility of confusion. Thanks for clarifying that you actually meant EDT :).

Not only that, but with only 2 votes it was unlikely for IRConfused to be lynched anyway.

I will just add that Mahaloth has been extremely quiet so far and remains very much under my suspicion.

After tossing and turning about this last night I have decided to keep my vote with Prof. Pepperwinkle. I will be checking when I can from my phone today at work, but I am at peace with this whichever way we end up going.

I tried for IRConfused, but the consensus didn’t form and I’m now very slightly leaning Sario. If it’s a mis-lynch, I’m probably on the IRConfused train again.

Though Mahaloth’s silence is worrying as well. I agree that it needs a :dubious:.
