Trouble Uninstalling/Installing Java

Java on my PC (Win 7 64 bit) was not working.

I tried to uninstall it and it failled with error 1723 about some missing DLL.

A log file I found seems to point to D:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\regutils.dll.

I downloaded and tried to install a newer version, 6.22.

The install fails with same error, I’m quessing it’s trying to uninstall the previous version.

I’ve now deleted all files from the Java folder and using the registry editor, I’ve deleted the Java entry from the Installed Programs list.

I’m still getting the same error.

Any clues as how I can get Java re-installed and working again.

Thanks

I was able to fix my problem by copying the whole Jave folder from my laptop to the desktop where I was having the problem and then going thru the install process again, this time it was successful

That’s one thing I was going to suggest–just go find that one file, whether from another computer, or from one of the places online.

Revo Uninstaller works real well for this, and similar tasks. I don’t do any uninstalls the old way anymore; I do them through Revo. It’s astonishing the amount of things left behind on your computer by most uninstall procedures!
