As this thread pertains to gaming, I’m putting it in CS rather than in GQ for a request for technical help. Mods, feel free to move it if it’s wrong.
I just got my Wii yesterday and have encountered a bit of a problem. The three middle buttons on the remote (minus, home and plus) work just fine in the system menu and in Wii Sports, but in Zelda, they don’t work. Has anyone else encountered/heard of this problem? What action would you recommend?
Because the buttons work everywhere but in that game, it seems to me that the problem lies with my copy of Zelda. I’m planning to try and exchange my copy of the game this afternoon. Any better ideas?
That is bizarre! I have never heard of this issue, but since the buttons work in other games, it can’t be the controller, and is probably the game. Or perhaps your Wii recognizes that Zelda is addictive and will suck up too much of your precious time so it is protecting you. There is always that option.
Good luck with changing your game out!
Hmph, I 've found Zelda really dull and have put it straight on to eBay. I spent about an hour trying to catch a damn fish, and another fun-filled ten minutes herding goats into a barn. This is entertainment? Now I’m a wolf in some dungeon with an extremely annoying sidekick. Maybe I just don’t have the Zelda gene, because I couldn’t get into the N64 one either. The control mechanism is just so cumbersome.
Should we ask your age first, or if this is your first Zelda game?
I saw all of that as the training round.
And yes, it took me a while to get out of the cell as wolf-link as well.
I got a new copy of the game earlier and the buttons briefly worked in it. After the goat herding/fence jumping, they stopped working. I’m left to face the possibility that I have a problem with either my Wii or my remote (though I don’t see how this is possible since the buttons in question still work with the system menus and with Wii Sports.) I ordered a second remote and nunchuck yesterday and once they arrive I’ll be able to test that option.
If that doesn’t work, what then? I bought the system on eBay, so I can’t exactly return it to the store and exchange it. Should I try to return it and get a refund from the seller? I’m going to try and see if I can find a friend who owns a Wii and see if I can test my disk and remote on their system to see if it is my console that is defective. I just don’t know what to do.
I pretty much agree with this. And why’s the game so DRAB? It’s murky, and the colors are just blaahhhhhhh. It seems like Zelda’s been this way since the “legendary” (but completely ugly!) “Ocarina of time” on the N64. Also, the screen’s very, very cluttered - I feel like I can see about 60% of what I want to see with the other 40 cluttered up by stuff that I can’t get rid of, like the key that shows what items are assigned to the + button.
I do love the controls and feel that they’re very intuitive, but the story is just sort of wallpaper (“uhh, save the kingdom from darkness and stuff…I guess…”) and most of the puzzles are really illogical or give little clue as to what you’re supposed to do or how you’re supposed to solve them.
I still like it, but I turn it on maybe once a week and feel little enthusiasm.
Replace the batteries. The remote will do strange things when the batteries are low. If that doesn’t help, resync it. Press the red syncronize button on the remote and the Wii at the same time. If that doesn’t work, you probably have a faulty remote.
Funny you should suggest that. I just switched out the batteries it came with for a fresh pair of Energizer e2’s and it’s working beautifully. Thanks for the (slightly late but still good) tip.
