True Blood 10/05

I’m coming back here to say that I’m watching the first episodes again, and I just love this show. That Bill— gosh DARN if he isn’t just about the sexiest thing that ever strolled into Bon Temps. <fanning myself>

I noticed that, too. I think the detective’s name was Beaumont. Hopefully I’ll remember to listen for it in future episodes (I’ll probably forget, though).

I agree that there’s something going on with Sam and the dog. I think it was last episode that Bill said some vampires are shape-shifters. Not sure if that’s what’s going on with Sam, though, or if he’s a straight-up weredog.

Anybody got any thoughts on who’s killing the girls? (Excepting Grannie. Poor Grannie. :frowning: )

Bellefleur. He’s played by Chris Bauer, who was outstanding in S2 of The Wire.

I’m clueless. Somebody who hates people who associate with vampires? I hope it’s someone we haven’t met. I don’t much like Jason (or Sam) but I don’t want either of them to be the killer. I read the book a few years back but don’t remember a thing about it.

My Money’s on the sherrif - not the detective - He was quick to point out that they had all been with vampires and the method of killing changed AFTER told him that a vampire would’ve fed on the victims.

Except the grandmother wasn’t drained of her blood. The sheriff would have drained her if he wanted to make it look like a vampire did it.

There hasn’t been a killing since Bill told the sheriff that vampires drain their victims.

What was the method of killing? Have we seen any of the victims being killed?

I’m drawing a blank. I don’t remember seeing any of the bodies clearly except for grandma.

I don’t think we know how anyone’s been killed, but the first two bodies did look pretty clean, so nothing messy.

Maudette was strangled, at least according to the local grapevine. The police haven’t said so, but when Grandma broke the news to Sookie and Jason, she said Maudette was strangled. And if you remember, we saw Jason choking her during sex, which is why he thought he’d done it.

Series spoiler:

The first book may not have had as much sex. But after that I seem to recall that Bill and Sookie are like rabbits, with frequent passages devoted to the same. So if HBO is ramping it up a bit, I wouldn’t call it out of character for the series as a whole.

I’m liking Jason better after this week’s episode. Finally, he seems to care about something other than getting laid. It’s too bad his first reaction was to lash out at Sookie, but that’s almost understandable.

Bill and Sookie –
"Bill and Sookie

K - I - S - S - I - N - aiiiieeeeeeeeeeeee
!

I had no idea they were going to go there!
Bill’s comment to Sam about “marking his territory” was a big hint about Sam’s nature, no?

I suppose one of the side-effects of vampire blood is giving you super-strength, in addition to sexual stamina?

And I’m not sure Tara’s mother was speaking metaphorically when she professed to have a demon inside her.

And completely off-topic, that maggot scene in the opening credits really grosses me out. I wish they’d lose that.

That’s a town full of hateful people, isn’t it? Sookie has yet to overhear one kind thought from anybody except the simple-minded Hoyt.

I like Lafayette, but it doesn’t seem realistic for the rednecks to be so cowed by him when it was three against one. And he should have known better than to give the idiot Jason yet more drugs. How is Jason paying for it?

I give it one or two more episodes before I finally give up on this terribly written show.

Note to TV writers: Not everyone in a show needs to be a sterotype. Sure the occassional dumb redneck or sassy black girl/gay black guy is fun. But to have every thought Suck-assy read be so mean spirited gets old. And it shows what the writers think of “those ignorant masses who don’t have the good sense to live in a cosmopolitan area.”

And the vampire as gay metaphor is so forced it’s pathetic. in Trueblood’s world vampires have been feeding on humans since, who nows, forever? And now that there is synthetic blood the “straight” people are supposed to unskeptically welcome them into society? I’m not saying it’s impossible for a lion to make friends with gazelles. But at the same time I’m not going to fault the gazelles for wanting the lion to prove itself trustworthy first.

Those are just philisophical/political issues I could ignore if the writing wasn’t so bad.

Here after Rogue’s granny dies people bring her food. And what is ungrateful bitch Tara’s first reaction? “Great, another tuna casserole.” Gee, sorry people didn’t coordinate before hand.

And Granny’s friend wishing she got there earlier to see some blood. That’s not a person, that’s a cartoon character.

And Lafayette talking about all the food oozing with hate…just annoying. If you all hate the townsfolk that bad I have an idea…MOVE! Or are there no jobs for a bartender/Walmart clerk, waitress and short order cook anywhere else in the country?

Anna Paquin won my heart as Rogue. This show makes me actively hate not just her character, but her. Didn’t she win, or at least get nominated for an Oscar? If so, it was an even bigger Oscar mistake than Crash.

Thank God for Dexter or Sunday night TV would be truly depresseing.

I’ve been viewing the vampire as a metaphor for racism. Guess I’m about 50 years behind the times.

zuma, me too, on the maggots. I close my eyes during the opening credits. I adore the song though, and the singer. It’s “Bad Things” by Jace Everett. I had to do some searching to find the CD. His label has discontinued it. Ebay has some for $20+ but I found new ones at JR.com for the regular price.

Or that. Either way it’s pretty forced and poorly done, IMO.

I was going to post a True Blood-related question in a new thread, but I’ll just tack it on to this one: what’s the song in the opening credits? (If I had to guess a title, it’d be “I Wanna Do Bad Things to You”). There’s no listing in the credits, and nothing on the HBO site.

(I really like the credits, despite the maggots. The South = sex, religion, racism and creepy animals.)

Pssst. Post #34.

It’s “Bad Things” by Jace Everett. Video

Didn’t expect to see what I was looking for right there in front of my eyes…thanks, Pam.

You’re welcome. Isn’t that a great song? I especially like that he says bad things “with” you instead of “to” you.

I could swear I saw that maggot scene before, maybe in an old Discovery Channel special or something. It was really familiar. Or maybe I’m confusing it with a real dead animal that I saw as a kid.

There was a nature documentary (theatrically released) in the early 70s with a similar maggot scene. The title was something odd, like “The Nordstrom Chronicles”…but that’s not right. And IMDB is not being any help. It’s driving me crazy.
