True Blood 3.1: "Pack of Wolves"

Since there is always so much time between seasons on premium channel shows it always seems like the first episode of the season is a throwaway because they’re catching people up and setting things up.

This episode was just okay except NAKED ERIC. That made it all worthwhile. Lawd.

I wish I had a reason to use that line sometime.

The Bill and Sam homoerotic dream moment … What the hell? If it’s just a throwaway scene for a certain segment of the audience then fine. Otherwise it seems like a complete and unexplained reversal for both characters. Or maybe just for Sam.

Sookie had erotic dreams about Eric after drinking his blood. Apparently it’s a side effect of live V.

I read a review – can’t find it now or I’d link – of the first three episodes and the reviewer says they’re gonna spend a lot of time explaining the vampire hierarchy. He compared it to a civics lesson. We’re going to meet another character, one who outranks the Queen and the Magister.

John Mace, me too, re Tara. She flies off the handle way too fast. When she’s depressed, which has been most of the time, she’s unbearable. The only time we saw her halfway content was when she was with Egg, and there was zero chemistry between those two actors.

Alfre Woodard is in the cast this season but I haven’t been able to find out what part she’ll play. I like her.

Exactly. I don’t think Sam is happy about this development, either. No happier than Sookie is about dreaming about Eric (though honestly, those two dreams have basically been the hottest thing in the entire series and I’m really, really hoping we get more of both).

I agree about Tara - when she jumped on Sookie I turned to my husband and asked, “Why would ANYONE be her friend?”
Naked Eric - ROWR!

Sweet! Pam is my favorite vampire character. Even though she’s lived hundreds of years, she’s still stuck in the 1980’s.

  • Sam has a LOT of Bill’s blood in him after the commotion with Mary Anne last season, he was almost killed and needed to be revived. If you get a drop of that sexxxy vampire blood (like ‘V’) in you, you go sex-mad, so just imagine what a whole lot will do. Apparently it doesn’t matter whether you get it from a she- or he-vamp. Lafayette got a lot of Eric’s blood and had erotic dreams, as does Sookie (about both Eric and Bill).

  • From what I understand, the Magister is like a supreme judge in the vampire world. Vampires have laws they have to follow, kings, queens, or nobodies.

  • I didn’t care for this episode, but didn’t expect to as this season is just started up and running.

But is it just me, or did anyone find that hideous sex scene with Eric and his dancer down in the basement disturbing? Naked Eric is OK with me, but … jeez, 6 hours…

Ep was pretty meh, but I liked the little segment afterwards about how they’re working with real wolves.

Bill and the old lady was kinda sweet, in a weird sorta way.

I haven’t read the books but I took it as the Queen is like President Obama and the Magister is like Chief Justice Roberts. They have their own realms but Roberts can order Obama to do something and Obama has to comply.

What I don’t get is why the Queen needs money. Why can’t she just glamor a few millionaires to transfer cash into her bank account? How much money could Lafayette possibly get from selling V in one night? Probably $20k tops.

I’ve read the books and I can’t say I fully understand where the Magister lies in the hierarchy, but I’d definitely say the Queen is more like a governor. Every state has a queen or king. She is just the Queen of Louisiana

Maybe it’s like a medieval church:state thing with royalty:-papacy.

Another favorite line from last night: “I’m sorry, it’s just that whenever I look at you I keep seeing you with bulletholes in your foreheads.”

Is there anyone who ranks above the Queens/Kings who’s in charge of all of America?

I don’t think so, but it could be that I’m just not remembering. It seems to me as if the Magister is more like what Sampiro describes. The states are more like countries when it comes to vampires.

I believe the Magister is just in charge of regulating what is and isn’t okay under the vampire code.

Then again, I could be all wrong

She’s going to be Lafayette’s (gay black guy’s) mom.

That’s not really a spoiler, but some people are very particular about what they want to know about this show.

With extreme prejudice! Oh, an Eric obsessed girl can dream…

I’m as curious about how they’re going to handle something much earlier in the book’s plot

Uh…no Buba/Elvis in seasons 1-2. He’s considerably more important to this book…are they going to cast an Elvis impersonator, or rewrite the whole reason that Sookie and Alcide get in trouble?

Add me to the people getting tired of Tara’s fairweather friend act.

Hey, someone asked me who the Magister is. Was I wrong to suggest he might be the king of Arkansas? I’ve always had the impression that he is, but maybe he’s not supposed to be that very minor character from the books.

I just watched it… can someone remind me what Sam is up to? Who are these people he’s looking for?

Sorry, I am bad about remembering plot points between seasons :frowning:

Do we really need to spoiler box something from last season? Oh, all right…

His birth parents

Essentially, I think, Sam wants to know why he’s a shapeshifter.

Sam is presently searching for his birth parents/family. Even though I just watched S2, I’m not sure if they specifically elucidated as to why, except that he encountered the other shape-shifter chick in S2
