I wasn’t a huge fan of this episode. The acting seemed really tepid. I appreciate the books where Sookie is scared but doesn’t act like the regular Hollywood heroine - “Oh, save me, you Big, Bad Man!” I found her irritating when she was about to be killed in the church. But I did like the interactions between Bill and Eric at the end.
And what the hell was with the heart pie? Most people avoid food that bleeds; given how opinionated Tara’s character is, I was surprised she didn’t avoid it.
Finally, does anyone else think that Lorena looks like a guy in drag? I think it’s something they do with the lipstick and eye makeup, but she looks fairly unfeminine and hard to me.
During the 1920’s flashback a while ago, she looked like a transvestite flapper. A DEAD transvestite flapper.
I wonder just how old she is? Godric said she was very old. She turned Bill into a vampire about 150 years ago, that isn’t that long ago in this universe, is it?
Godric will probably die. He seems like a reasonable vampire that could take real steps towards better relationships between vampires and humans, so they’re going to yank that away from us.
I haven’t read the books either but I do find the changes that occur between different media to be interesting. But more important than what the changes are, I think it’s cool to be able to reference the books to gain insight into certain things that are either not directly or not immediately addressed in the show, especially when it might seem like they are plot holes - it’s comforting to know there’s a reason for certain things or that certain things will get addressed.
That said, I’m curious as to what Godric’s reasons for being at the church were in the novels, even though I get the impression they are different than in the tv series.
I’m also curious what his motives are, and I don’t think that the TV series has told us anything about them. I think in one of the previous threads on the show, someone said what the book said was his motivation. Here is a link to the post. (The stuff from the book is in a spoiler box.)
Yeah, I can’t see how there’s any way that Godric’s motivations in the show are similar to what they were in the book.
So far I like his portrayal in the TV show a lot better. Honestly, apart from the whole 2000-year-old vampire thing, he’s really a totally different character. (How much did I love his line about being older than Christ and wishing he could have met him?)
Yep. In the book he’s totally dispassionate about all other beings, mortal or otherwise. This Godric has more depth. Who knows, maybe the writers really like him and will not kill him off. Laffette is still kicking on the show, so why not?
