So, Sookie and Godric.
Someone last week totally called Andy saving Sam.
And Stan isn’t the traitor, Hugo is.
And is Jason really dead?

Obviously Jason isn’t really dead. That gun looked weird, like not a real gun. At first I thought it was a taser, but it wasn’t. BB gun? Something.
I thought the Hoyt/Jessica thing was really sweet. I’m waiting for the other shoe to fall, though.
Eric’s little tear about Godrik was certainly a side of him we haven’t seen-- genuine emotion. What do you think of his claim that he doesn’t want Sookie? Bullshit, right?
Maryann, what a psycho, eh? I guess that’s what Daphne gets for being such a simp, thinking Maryann loved her. I foresee Sam putting an end to Maryann, maybe with the help of Andy, who is also somehow immune to Maryann.
Who do we think grabbed poor Barry, the mind-reading kid?
I missed that, was Barry grabbed in the hallway or later?
Layfayette is back, although still a little subdued. Good laugh at Andy trying to convince everyone in the bar of what he saw with only Sam to believe him.
I doubt Jason is dead- I think it was a taser. She was crying as she did it (I think), so I do think she meant to capture him and may mean to do him harm since he’s considered a vampire sympathizer. She did say something to the affect that she still believed in what they were doing, so if she thinks Jason is a vampire friend, she’ll think it’s her duty to bring him in.
He was thinking to Sookie something like, “This is the last time I help you and your vampire friends!” in the hallway when someone super fast grabbed him and pulled him into one of the rooms.
That was frustrating. With the action promising to ramp up, they decide to have Bill forced to sit on his hands for fifty minutes. The idea was to clearly build suspense over his rescue of Sookie, but we the audience got to see the many inter-cut scenes of her being in no immediate danger – which completely undercuts Bill’s boring scenes.
Sam is proactive enough to demand answers at gunpoint, but they’re freely given to him anyways. He then does nothing some more for the next half hour.
With Godrick freely zooming around the basement, I’m guessing he’s in on his own disappearance – perhaps in order to orchestrate some endgame.
Not being interested much in the main characters, I’d really prefer The Wire with vampires – featuring Sheriff Eric Northman and his criminal informant Lafayette cracking down on vampire murdering V dealers. Anyone else?
The whole thing with Godric I’m suspecting is some kind of storyline device to get Eric in a bad situation with the Fellowship. I don’t know for what purpose but it makes a certain kind of sense.
They keep saying that “No one could have overpowered Godric” and occasionally point toward another race of being as a possibility. Maybe the answer is simpler. Maybe no one overpowered Godric. Maybe he (or he and his lackies) is working with the Fellowship and Eric just got in the way.
Didn’t Rev Steve mention wooden bullets? Perhaps it was a gun but loaded with something non-lethal to humans.
My bet is that Jessica will somehow get Bill out of his mess with his maker (this time at least).
Paint gun?
Maybe Godric is the one trying to start a war between humans and vampires. His whole being captured could be a ploy to massacre all the Fellowship members gathered to witness his execution in order to spark real hostilities between vampires and humans. That way he’ll be able to justify his killing of them to the vampires of other territories by saying they attacked him first.
Having read the books and watching the show is reminding me of “false friends” in French class. Things look familiar, so I think I know what’s going to happen, but things can be just similar enough to throw you off completely - like when the body in the car wasn’t Lafayette.
I enjoyed this one a lot. The acting performances varied a lot though. Normally I don’t notice mediocre-bad acting, but damn, Andy and Bud in this one was painful - and I know William Sanderson is capable of much better. And yet, Lorena’s face when she realized/declared that Bill was truly in love with Sookie was so wonderfully expressive.
It would have been nice to see a more definitive reason for Bill’s flashback change of heart. Pretty simple too, to have them attack a child, and have him remember his own child or something. Instead they left us to fill in the blanks on a pretty major character change.
Still, this was a pretty fun ride. Two great lines spring to mind:
Hoyt: I wanted it to be perfect. Because you’re perfect.
Jessica: Hoyt . . . just . . . take off your pants.
and Tara to Arlene: “Are you telling me you date-raped Terry Bellefleur?!”
Meanwhile, I’m choosing to interpret Daphne’s opinions on Maryanne’s nature to be the inflated adulation of a zealot. Because if she’s Kali/Isis/whatever, plus somehow Dionysus is Satan, that is just moronic. And the denouement certainly indicates Daphne may have misunderstood Maryanne’s character.
As for Jason’s fate - spoiler from the previewit was a paint gun
I love this show, but I am getting very, very tired of them spoiling what should be a cliffhanger by revealing what happens in the previews for next week. Last time, “OMG will Sam be okay?” Then we see a preview with him romping around just fine. This week, “OMG Jason got shot!” And then the preview shows us what happened. Gah!
Possible Major Spoiler:
In the books, Godric is a victim of ennui. He’s been alive so long he’s tired of living and he wants to “meet the sun”, or commit suicide. So he is cooperating with the Fellowship of the Sun.
Whether this is what will happen in the series is anyone’s guess.
J.
Bill just needs to introduce him to Wii Golf.
And Rock Band.
How come no one mentioned the fact that Stephen Moyer can actually sing?
Eric is so totally gay for Godrick. At least that’s how this episode made him seem.
I had no idea telepaths had such long range in this universe.
I really hope that Maryanne doesn’t really turn out to be
God.
Because didn’t we already have a similarly malevolent, manipulative, and virtually omnipotent character in Buffy The Vampire Slayer, in the person of Glorificus?
It seemed pretty apparent that Godric was set loose by Eric. Eric overheard Barry’s message, so I’m guessing he bolted and freed his maker. Then, in previews for next week, we see him strapped at the church and claiming he is there to take Godric’s place. Sooooo…I’m guessing he set Godric free before turning himself in, more or less.
The scene with Daphne at the lake bugged me. It was “Don’t, I’ll shoot you! Or, I’ll just stand here.” “That’s okay. I shall shed my clothes, but not all of them this time 'cause it’s daylight and then people would actually see my bits. I shall tell you all about EVERYTHING like the first paragraph of a bad novel while you stand there with a constant look of befuddlement.”
“Then, of course, since I’ve served my purpose in leading you along and explaining everything to the audience, I’ll be killed.”
I also can’t stand when girls in these person-getting-attacked situations just jump on the guy like they can outpunch or overthrow. Sookie was surrounded by things she could somehow convert into some sort of makeshift weapon. But–we’ve been shown time and again, she is not the brightest bulb in the box.
Glad to see Lafayette is more himself; he is my favorite character. Seems the most consistent, too. I used to think Tara was smart…she needs to redeem herself.
I forgot to mention, I couldn’t help but chuckle during the scene where Maryanne is chasing Sam through the forest, wearing her bull helmet. She doesn’t seem actually to be pursuing him, but just trots along behind him, almost mildly as it were. It reminds me of the scene several weeks ago when she hits Carl over the towels. She really doesn’t seem to use any force, but just sort lightly slaps his face–and he crumples.
