True Blood 6/28/09: "Scratches" (OPEN SPOILERS)

Is there a double meaning to the episode title, or is it just about the critter that attacked Sookie? It doesn’t appear that he’s the same thing that attacked the exorcist lady.

Most of the episode has already faded from memory, except for Jessica. She was so mortified when her fangs popped out. Really, Bill shouldn’t leave her alone until she’s passed Vampire 101. What else doesn’t she know?

What did you guys think of this week’s episode?

What does it mean that Daphne had those same scratches on her back? Is the minotaur creature a minion of Marianne, trying to get rid of Sookie for her offer to give Tara a place to live? Why didn’t the scratches kill Daphne as the doctor said they would kill Sookie? Or is the point that she’s going to get weaker and weaker, with the creature stalking her to pounce on her when she succumbs? This means that Sam is going to be in for some trouble next week.

I’m glad Lafayette got away from EriK, though I bet they’re not through with him. They didn’t make him a vampire, did they, or don’t we know?

I’m really tired of the Jason and the God people plotline. And why the hell does he think a vampire killed Gram? Renee killed Gram, and he knows that.

I think that creature is Marianne, and I think the “poison” somehow turns them into her minions. I wouldn’t be surprised to see those scratches on Egg’s back, the servant she slapped, etc.

I like how Eric finds it “interesting” that he’d never heard of this creature, and he’s over 1000 years old.

But we’ve seen Eggs walking around without a shirt. Heck, the only reason Eggs is on the show is so we can look at his chest. He’s boring. And not too bright, as evidenced by the hot tub scene. Hey! Have we seen Eggs and the pig at the same time?

Have we seen his back? I honestly don’t remember.

He says that his Gram was killed because of how somebody felt about vampires. He knows.

I don’t remember either but I don’t think it matters. If his back was all scratched up, we’d know. We’d either see the scratches, or see him trying to hide them.

Jessica was smoking hot at Merlot’s. It fit Hoyt’s character that he was intrigued, open, and excepting.

Eggs is not the Pig - if for no other reason then that Eggs was with bacon… errr… tara at the hot tub during that scene.

I think the pig is the cook…

Yeah, how’s that for twisted logic? Renee so hated vampires that he killed Gran for merely being nice to one, and because he went there to kill Sookie and she wasn’t home. Instead of coming to the conclusion that irrational hatred for vampires is bad and makes people do crazy things, he decides to join up with the irrational vampire haters. But then, Jason was never strong on logic, was he?

He’s a classic pretty boy, for sure - though the show continually hints that he’ll turn out alright. I love characters that fail upward.

He’s doing better though. Last season Jason wouldn’t have thought twice about accepting Preacher Woman’s statement, and wouldn’t have stood up at the meeting and said what he did. If he put a little more effort into it, he might be able to turn those people around. That’d be interesting.

I don’t see the preacher’s son with the vendetta turning around anytime soon. I think the preacher’s wife wants to shag him, what with those ridiculous abs he has and all. I can see the whole thing getting really messy, classic Jason Stackhouse style. I agree that it would be interesting to see him turn the vamp haters around, but I just doubt it’s going to go that way.

Last season Tara nearly drove into a woman next to a pig in the middle of the street. As I remember that woman wasn’t Maryann but someone else.

Also, I used to think that the preacher wanted to sleep with Jason, based on how long he kept touching Jason’s shoulder when they first met. Now, given that the preacher’s father was killed by a vampire, I think he has some sort of revenge fantasy he’s cooking up.

He’s frustratingly stupid and the plot is boring but to be fair, Jason brought up Renee’s murder of his grandmother and girlfriend to make a point that humans are capable of evil too. The wife rebukes him for saying Eddie was a good person because vampires arent people. Jason points out that Renee did those horrible things merely because he had a problem with vampires, yet he was a 'person', so being or not being a person isnt sufficient to determine good or evil.

The vampire hater wife takes him outside and is somewhat successful at convincing him and of course you`re right that it was stupid to join up with them in the first place. So, I do see your point but I thought the particular exchange about Renee killing his friends was intended to be a rare moment of clarity and correct thinking for Jason.

Both the readhead and the preacher’s wife are extremely hot.
Nothing more to add.

I agree that Jason was unusually articulate and clear-thinking when he made the comments about Rene and Eddie. I wish he could stay with that train of thought. It seems like he has PTSD after what happened to Eddie and Amy, not to mention losing Gran, and needs some comfort and direction. I wish he hadn’t turned to wacked out vamp haters, because you know this is going to put him at odds with Sookie and get him in trouble. I’m sure Erik and Co. are going to have to deal with him eventually too, for what he did to Eddie. Maybe being where he is right now, stupid as it is, is all that’s keeping him safe. That would be fitting.

I think it’s generally accepted that the woman was Maryann. We just don’t know why Maryann is interested in Tara. Speculation has been that she’s using Tara to get to Jason and/or Sookie, for whatever reason. I have a feeling that this plot line might not make much sense, when it’s all over.

Maryann doesn’t make any sense at all. I’m sick of trying to figure out what her deal is; I wish they’d just tell us. Here’s what I’ve got so far: she generates sexual energy in the people around her; she’s trying to lure Tara away from her family, friends and job and into a life of meaningless hedonism; she’s already done the same to Eggs; she presumably benefits in some way from the sexual energy and hedonism that she fosters; she’s connected to and has power over the intersection of human and animal; her cook is a service bottom.

Actually, now that I spell it out like that, she makes a lot of sense: her powers are all related to animals and human’s impulsive animal nature. I still want to know how she benefits from her little orgies and having Tara and Eggs around, and what the hell the deal with the pig is! Damn thing just disappeared. grumble I’m sure she has something to do with the minotaur as well.

There was some serious eye-rolling around here when Sookie stalked out of the car in her “Screw you, I’m walking home!” snit. Because if there’s ever been a person who shouldn’t be out in the night alone…

What was up with folks’ eyes at the orgy at Maryanns?
