True Blood (bath) 3.7 - "Hitting the Ground" OPEN SPOILERS

Yeah, I’m agreeing with the consensus that Bill’s semi-immunity to sunlight was a side effect of being full of Sookie’s special blood.

I really cannot get enough of the vampire King of Mississippi. One of my favorite scenes this week were the fake little air kisses that he did with Queen Sophie after their marriage.

There was a little bit of parallel in Sam telling his dad that he had no authority over him or his brother; and Russell telling the Magister that he had no authority over, well, anybody, wasn’t there? I thought so anyway.

I think I’m going to miss the Magister. He was so deliciously evil. And yes, I am very interested to find out who/what this “Authority” is.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen quite so much air in an air kiss.

Stan Cartman?

I’m being nitpicky but why didn’t the hospital give her O-neg in the first place? It played like they gave her whatever blood was handy.

I am not a doctor but I am fairly sure they can type and cross-match superfast in an emergency room… I figured they hung some solution to replace some of the lost blood volume while they tried to type. Then they hung O-negative because they couldn’t find the type.

Does blood type matter when the vampires feed on a human, or can they consume any bloodtype? I think in scenes in Merlotte’s, the vampires specify blood type when ordering TrueBlood, so it seems to matter then.

It’s a matter of taste like the way some people prefer pinot and others merlot. Remember when Bill was trying to train Jessica? He was giving her the various flavors/types to see what she liked best.

Stan Cartman?

I’m guessing a cameo by Betty White. Possibly as herself.

While Betty White would absofrickinlutely rule as the true authority, I’m thinking the red haired lady from “whos the boss” would be even better.

A couple of questions about “The Authority.” Is this a single person or a committee? Does The Authority supervise the vampires only in the US, or worldwide? I’ll be curious to see what we find out. Perhaps The Authority will be seniority-based (like the Howard Family meetings in Heinlein’s fiction). But if so, Russell would have a lot of control, independent of being King of Mississippi.

I got the impression that it’s a committee. The Magister was (one of?) their enforcers/judges. He worked for them. Russell plans to have them working for him.

Russell is the oldest vampire introduced in the series so far (2,800 years) so he has to have encountered the Authority numerous times by now, whatever they are and however many there are. Presumably they made him king, though this isn’t actually said. He apparently thinks he can take them which would imply there aren’t that many of them or they aren’t omnipotent in their control over vampires.

My guess would be it’s something like the Commission in the Godfather movies, and probably would have the most ancient vampires among it. An Ethiopian or Bushman actor would be good to play one of them since they would be the most believable as ‘so ancient they predate the races and settlements of other continents’.

Do you think there’s any significance or magic to Eric’s father’s crowns other than “it’s pretty and Russell was redecorating” at the time? (Assuming of course that it was Russell who let the dogs out on the Vikings; the figure was implied to be Russell but since he was cloaked it might be a red herring [of which I would think Scandinavia would have a lot].)

Good for chopping down the tallest trees in the forest!

Jason has no responsibility.

Oh, and the queen is very hot!

Yeah, that’s all I got for the episode. A lot happened, and there was nonstop action, but it didn’t really leave me with much to say.

This is a continuity fuck up because last season they said that Godric (~2000 y.o.) was the oldest vamp in North America.

Russell said that they only had authority because the other vamps agreed to give it to them. Russell wants to start a revolution. He is against the idea of joining up with the humans and living openly with them which is what the Authority seems to be doing. He wants to wipe out the humans and have the world be just for vampires. This idea, of course, is not without flaws. They need to eat and make more vampires.

I think that it was Russell and he wanted the crown because he liked to collect pretty things. I don’t think that Russell knows who Eric was. I think that Godric choosing to make Eric vampire was no accident. He was probably trying to thwart Russell even back then.

Russell or the Magister definitely referred to the Authority as more than one person (well, vampire). So that’ll be interesting. BTW, the Magister definitely Jello-fied when his head hit the ground.

God I love Russell - he’s the perfect bad guy. He’s so much fun, they have to show him murdering babies and shit, so we’ll remember not to root for him too much.

I was a little sad they didn’t have Sookie say the line she says in the books when she stakes Lorena:(in shock) well . . . I killed *her *ass.On the other hand, I’m glad they restrained themselves from having Bill rape Sookie as well as brutally feed on her. The way they’ve been sooo graphic lately had me wondering how bad that would be.

Bill was definitely smoking lightly right before he took off into the woods, so Sookie’s blood didn’t completely protect him, but yeah, the implication is that special [insert speculation on creature type] blood can protect vampires from sunlight to some degree.

Good episode. But am I the only one who thinks The Queen is the worst actor of the bunch? Put her next to Russel, and the contrast is crazy.

I’m with ya…she’s not very good. She reminds me of a lot of child actors…they overact, terribly.

I’m sure there are some very unpleasant things in Russell’s future but he got a serious thumbs up from me for killing Magister Creepy. And honestly, so did Tara for throwing Bill out into the sun. He’s not on my happy list.

Nitpick: Eric Cartman

Seriously, what was everyone expecting? Leaving a seriously wounded vampire alone with anyone is like leaving a steak in front of a starving person. Hell, the scene almost flat out says Bill wasn’t in control of his actions.

Well The Queen is a teenager. Teenagers are a little more melodramatic.

Or maybe she is a bad actor. I don’t know.

Actually I’m not sure they ever said that about Godric. I recently watched all the episodes again (with a friend who’d never seen the show) and I listened for this because I’d seen it said here before. Although Eric does say that Godric is 2000 years old, he says something on the order of “He’s twice the vampire of anyone in North America, possibly the world.” but he never says that he is the oldest. I took “twice the vampire” as just being better not older.

Now, I fully admit that they might have said it another time and I missed it, but I was really trying to listen for it.
