I’m finding Jason’s storyline more and more absorbing all the time. Preacher lady is now becoming more sympathetic too. Jason was awesome in the fence scene, showing his instinctive natural leadership ( a former QB1 and all), but his cause is so corrupt. That handy in the bathtub has changed the dynamic now. I thought Sarah seemed desperate and lonely, and wanting a genuine emotional connection that she isn’t getting from her (totally gay) husband.
I also liked the Eric the Viking origin story, but though his buddies were a little cold blooded, loading him up on that funeral when he wasn’t quite dead yet.
The Tara/MaryAnn story is starting to get a little tedious. It’s getting kind of old to see Tara keep getting manipulated, start to show a little independence, then get manipulated all over again.
Hoyt telling Jessica about his comic books over the phone was cute.
I always thought preacher lady was sympathetic and yes Jason’s story is getting more absorbing, but that might be because she is sex on wheels. How exactly is warring against your natural predators a corrupt cause exactly? And yes, her husband is obviously gay. It’s not going to end well, but something tells me that her husband is going to eat it in such a horrific way as to render the whole thing moot.
But isn’t that just a normal cultural thing? I didn’t think they were being cold at all, that they pushed themselves to build a pyre in order to honor their friend was sweet. Eric is definitely my favorite vampire in the whole story, and his maker was quite cool, everything that Armand could have been but wasn’t.
Heh, I disagree, Marianne is one of the best mindfuck characters ever. That little trick she pulled to get everyone angry at Tara was great, and then that bit where she was wearing Gran’s clothes was just fucking creepy.
I’d like Jason’s story line better if the setup had been more subtle. But I guess it makes more sense this way. Sarah was obviously hot for Jason (or just plain love-starved) from the beginning, so this doesn’t come out of the blue. Still, the coldness from her husband was a bit heavy-handed.
Why on earth did they go to Dallas anyway? I kept waiting for a big pow-wow with some super vamps planning how to find Godric. But all we saw was a very confusing conversation (if you could even call it that) with a vaquero vamp wanting to kill humans, Eric blowing up, and Bill just standing around like he was waiting for a drink order. Nothing happened that couldn’t have been done over the phone. Why did Sookie have to go? She can’t read vamp minds. What was the point? And if those two were the only ones who knew Sookie was coming, why didn’t Eric and Bill do something about it right then and there?
Maryann’s plan to get Tara away from Sookie is working. No way Sookie comes home and accepts three strangers as housemates.
I’m so bored with the Maryann and Tara thing now. I just want to know what the point is and get to it…seriously. BOR-ING. Actually, worse than boring; it’s getting predictable. The other story lines I’m on board with–I was amused at how offended Sarah was when Jason called Mary Magdalene a “hooker.” The look on Sarah’s face was great…good subtle acting there.
RickJay, we don’t see Anna Paquin naked his time, but we do see the shadowy outline of her breasts when she gets out of bed one morning.
Jessica’s “I ordered him off the menu!” was one of my favorite lines in last night’s episode.
I get the feeling a lot was edited out of that storyline. In the book, the house is full of vampires and some humans, and Stan, the boss vampire in Dallas, has called Sookie there to read the minds of some humans who may have seen something pertinent to the missing vamp. There is an implication that one of many people could be the traitor, and a further development I don’t want to spoil, just in case. It seemed to me they may have shot a lot more of that, hit a time constraint, and whittled it down to the bare bones infodump: Stan’s the boss, Isabelle’s second, he wants to raze the Fellowship, she has reasonable objections that indicate a subtler approach, and Godric was Eric’s maker. It was inelegant at best.
I was also disappointed in Stan’s appearance. I thought it was fun in the book, that he had adopted a nerd persona, presumably as a facade to obscure how powerful and dangerous he really is.
Unauthorized Cinnamon, I think you’re right – editing. At least they didn’t waste time with long drawn-out sex scenes. Not that I’m a prude, but at this point, they’d just be filler. I liked Tara cuddling with Eggs though.
What about Bill’s maker sashaying down the hallway at the end?? I can’t wait to see what happens with that—obviously she’s not going to be happy that Bill’s in love with a human!
I hope Lafayette gets back to his old self at some point—I don’t like morose Lafayette!
For once I was grateful for a show tipping its hat by showing that scene from last season in the “previously…” part, because there’s no way I would’ve recognized her otherwise.
So what was Godfrey supposed to be before he was made himself? Aztec?
IIRC, in the book Godric was some sort of Celt/Druid before he was turned. The guy they have playing him does look vaguely South American, though I didn’t really notice it too much till you asked.
It seems to me that they’re doing a much better job writing the parts of the story they’ve made up for the show than the parts they’re adapting from the book. Jason and the church camp, Jessica, Sam and minotaur waitress, it’s all interesting and coherent. Even the stuff with Maryanne and Tara, while getting old pretty quickly, is still fairly interesting and makes sense within the storyline. But all the stuff with Sookie and the Dallas vamps is…well, it’s a jumbled-up mess that doesn’t make a hell of a lot of sense even if you’ve read the books. The sooner they get the hell away from the book plots entirely, the better the show will be.
Am I the only one who thinks they’re gearing up for a Civil War-esque showdown between Jason and Sookie?
Just a heads up – don’t read the True Blood feature in this week’s issue of Entertainment Weekly if you don’t want to be spoiled. And where do they get off with a cast picture and no Eric?
She isn’t a minotaur. She’s a shapeshifter like Sam. Yes I’m aware she had scars similar to the ones Sookie got when she was attacked. But those scars could have been acquired any number of ways.
I don’t get why Sam hasn’t said, “So, what’s up with those huuuuuuuge claw mark scars across your back?” yet. What, two, three episodes now the camera has lingered on them, showing us that Sam Sees Them! I know he may not want to seem impolite or whatever, but seriously. Someone takes off an article of clothing and is marked up like that, it’s pretty darn likely something will be asked.
I just see it as another annoying, drawn-out, getting-boring aspect of the Maryann yawn-fest. I have a feeling they’re saving the great Reveal of whatever her deal is for the season finale, so we’ll have to wait AGAIN. Assuming we (I) still care. I liked her storyline at first, but they’re losing me now. Obviously.
The Dallas things don’t bother me as much as some of the rest of you, but I haven’t read the books.
And FTR, I’m a married, hetero female, but I am not minding seeing Anna Paquin get nekkid. Part of that, I think, is because I’m 4mos preggo and seeing my body change, and I appreciate seeing such a fine flat tummy and non-engorged, non-saggy breasts. (I know, some of y’all would probably much prefer the engorged look. But the hot, NO TOUCHIE pain that goes with them is NO FUN.)
Any number of ways being MaryAnn could’ve gashed her in any number of situations?
It’s funny how much people hate MaryAnn she’s one of my favorite parts of the show. Glad there are other aspects to the show keeping you guys going otherwise the show would get cancelled like Kings.
As for Anna Paquin getting nekkid, it’s the only thing that redeems how bloody annoying both Sookie and Bill are.
